Florida Gators Star Stuns Fans with Unexpected Draft Projection Drop

Despite tremendous potential, Florida Gators' star Banks faces a plummet in NFL Draft projections due to recurring foot injuries and limited college play.

In the ever-evolving landscape of the NFL Draft, fortunes can change in an instant, and Florida Gators' standout defensive tackle, Banks, is living proof. Once a solid Day 2 pick, Banks saw his draft stock skyrocket after an impressive Senior Bowl performance, with some even projecting him as a top-10 selection. The Kansas City Chiefs at No. 9 seemed like a potential landing spot.

Banks showcased his skills at the Scouting Combine, but his workout was cut short. It was later revealed that Banks had suffered a broken foot the night before the Combine, requiring surgery earlier this month. This was his second foot surgery in six months, having sustained a similar injury early in the 2025 college season.

Standing at a towering 6-foot-6 and weighing 327 pounds, Banks' size is both an asset and a concern when it comes to foot injuries. While some experts still rank him as the top defensive tackle in this class, the injury has understandably impacted his draft position.

In a recent mock draft by The Athletic, Banks slid to No. 48, potentially joining the Atlanta Falcons. Josh Kendall noted, "Nobody loves big people with foot injuries, but Banks’ potential at a premium position and a top-line need for Atlanta makes him hard to pass up."

Despite his talent, Banks' collegiate production is limited. After starting at Louisville in 2021 with minimal playtime, he transferred to Florida in 2023.

In his second season with the Gators, he recorded 21 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. This limited resume, coupled with injury concerns, might deter some NFL teams.

However, if Banks can recover and harness his potential, he could become a formidable force in the NFL. The risk may be significant, but the reward could be even greater.
