Florida has secured a commitment from promising 2027 tight end, Jackson Ballinger, hailing from Centerburg High School in Ohio. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 225 pounds, Ballinger chose the Gators over several other top programs, including Texas A&M, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Stanford.
Ballinger becomes the second commitment for Florida's 2027 class, joining four-star cornerback Amare Nugent, who committed earlier in January.
During his visit to Florida from January 22-24, Ballinger was thoroughly impressed. "It was fantastic," he shared, emphasizing the strong character within the program. A significant part of his visit involved spending time with tight ends' coach Evan McKissack, which helped solidify their relationship.
McKissack's appreciation for Ballinger's character left a lasting impression. "That's something I really value," Ballinger noted, highlighting his desire to find a school that aligns with his personal values.
Throughout his visit, Ballinger prioritized connecting with as many people as possible to get a true sense of the program. "It was really about communication," he said, having already seen the facilities before.
A key interaction was with offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner. Ballinger was struck by Faulkner's football intelligence. "He's incredibly knowledgeable," Ballinger remarked, appreciating how Faulkner connected the team's strategies to his own play style.
Another standout aspect of Florida for Ballinger was the GatorMade program, aimed at enhancing student-athletes' financial literacy. He spent time with the program's leader, gaining insight into their impactful work.
The visit concluded with a meeting with Jon Sumrall, which left Ballinger impressed by Sumrall's humility and values. "He's a great coach and a down-to-earth guy," Ballinger said.
Overall, the visit not only met but exceeded Ballinger's expectations, leading to his commitment. Although currently unranked by 247sports, Ballinger is set to make an official visit to Florida from June 4-6.
