Florida Gators Impress at NFL Combine But One Performance Stands Out

Former Florida Gators are making waves at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, showcasing their skills and potential to NFL coaches.

The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine is in full swing in Indianapolis, and Florida's presence is noteworthy with several promising participants making their mark.

This annual, invite-only event is a critical stage for NFL prospects to showcase their skills in front of coaches and scouts. The Combine is often dubbed “the ultimate job interview,” featuring a series of physical and mental tests, including the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, agility drills, and position-specific drills. The event kicked off on Monday and will run through next Tuesday.

Among the 319 invitees, nine former Gators are making their presence felt. Florida's track record of producing NFL talent remains strong, thanks to a robust recruiting pipeline that consistently brings in top-tier talent. Despite recent on-field struggles, Florida's contribution to the Combine is tied for eighth with Clemson, and within the SEC, they rank fifth in player invites.

Let's dive into how the Gators are faring, based on their current prospect grades, which are scored out of eight points.

Caleb Banks - Defensive Line

Caleb Banks is turning heads as Florida’s top prospect with a solid prospect grade of 6.39. His performance is drawing comparisons to former Florida defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr., known for his physical yet agile style.

Despite a slower 2025 due to a foot injury, Banks is showcasing impressive short-area quickness and “outstanding” physical traits. He's projected to become a starter and a key player for any team that drafts him.

George Gumbs Jr. - Defensive Line

George Gumbs Jr. enters the Combine with a prospect grade of 6.14. Despite a slight dip in performance from 2024 to 2025, Gumbs is seen as a strong backup with starter potential. Known as a “late bloomer,” his attitude and work ethic could propel him into a starting role in the future.

Devin Moore - Cornerback

With a prospect grade of 6.00, Devin Moore is making waves with his production score, ranking third among cornerbacks. Last year, he was 12th in total tackles and sixth in solo tackles among the Gators. Moore is expected to be an “above-average” backup with room for improvement as he gains more experience.

J. Michael Sturdivant - Wide Receiver

J. Michael Sturdivant, the sole Florida receiver at the draft, holds a prospect grade of 6.00.

He finished 2025 with the second-most receiving yards on the team. While his production score is 37th among 46 wide receivers, his athleticism score is impressive, ranking eighth.

Sturdivant's film suggests a skill set that could make him a valuable middle-round pick.

Trey Smack - Kicker

Trey Smack, one of two Gator specialists at the Combine, is known for his ability to consistently hit field goals from 50 yards or more. Despite some inconsistencies last year, he maintains a prospect rating of 5.92 and has an “above-average” chance of making an NFL roster.

Austin Barber - Offensive Line

Austin Barber, named to the All-SEC third team last season, is expected to be an “average backup” with a prospect grade of 5.87. Despite facing top SEC talent, Barber has had struggles in key games. His hustle and ability to hit landmarks are noted, but he’s projected as a third-day pick.

Tyreak Sapp - Defensive Line

Tyreak Sapp, a three-year starter, had a standout year in 2024. Although his performance dipped in 2025, he still recorded 34 tackles. With a prospect grade of 5.86, Sapp has potential for growth, particularly if he adds mass and adapts his playing technique.

Tommy Doman Jr. - Punter

Tommy Doman Jr. faces an uphill battle with a prospect rating of 5.62. Expected to be a practice squad candidate, Doman’s pro-level hang time offers a promising upside despite not yet being a go-to field flipper.

Jake Slaughter - Center

Jake Slaughter is a standout among centers, ranked first in production rating at the Combine. A five-season veteran with the Gators, Slaughter earned All-SEC first team honors and USA Today All-American second team recognition in 2025. He’s poised to be a potential Day 2 pick.

As the Combine continues, these Gators are showcasing their talents, hoping to turn heads and secure their spots in the upcoming NFL Draft.
