Florida Gators Get Big Recruiting Update From Top Prospect

Top prospect Trenton Yancey finds himself impressed by the Florida Gators' welcoming atmosphere and coaching staff, ranking them just behind his leading choice, Mississippi State.

The Florida Gators hosted several top prospects from the Class of 2027 on Saturday for their first spring scrimmage, and among those in attendance was receiver Trenton Yancey from Duncanville, Texas. This was Yancey’s first visit to Gainesville, and he came away impressed by the high-energy practice session.

“It was good, just seeing the first scrimmage of their new staff coming in,” Yancey shared. “The intensity was high, and I liked everything about it.”

As Yancey watched from the sidelines, a few players caught his eye, notably receiver Bailey Stockton, a transfer from Georgia Tech, and quarterback Trammell Jones. “A lot of guys are doing impressive things,” he noted.

The Gators’ coaching staff emphasized the importance of Yancey’s visit, wanting him to experience the program firsthand. “It was really just to see the practice and how things go,” Yancey explained. “To see if it’s something I can envision doing daily.”

Yancey also had the opportunity to observe receivers coach Marcus Davis in action. “Seeing him in person was good,” Yancey remarked. “He’s more energetic in person, even with his players and the team.”

Both Coach Davis and head coach Jon Sumrall made Yancey feel like a priority, highlighting the potential for him to make an early impact at Florida. “It’s a place to come in early and make a big impact,” Yancey said. “Everyone is friendly and welcoming.”

What stood out most to Yancey was the sense of community and the positive atmosphere among the team and staff. “The people feel like family,” he observed. “Practices are lively, and even when someone makes a bad play, they shake it off and keep moving.”

Following his visit, Yancey acknowledged that the Gators have climbed higher on his list of potential schools. “Florida would be number two on my list,” he said, with Mississippi State currently holding the top spot. Yancey plans to return for an official visit this summer, as the Gators continue to vie for his commitment.
