Florida will get one more crack at Easton Royal this weekend, and this time the pitch looks a lot stronger.
The five-star wide receiver has been one of the biggest recruiting storylines of the summer, with Florida showing real momentum at points before the trail seemed to cool after an eventful official visit. Still, the Gators have managed to keep themselves in the conversation, and Royal is scheduled to be in The Swamp on Saturday for what could be a pivotal visit.
Royal is not just another elite prospect. As a junior in high school, he piled up 2,095 all-purpose yards and scored 29 total TDs. His calling card is speed, and his 100-meter PR of 10.17 seconds would have tied for 11th at the 2026 NCAA national championships.
He has been committed to Texas since November, and he has not backed off that pledge despite Florida’s push. LSU has also been involved, and in July it was widely believed that Royal was headed to the Tigers.
Part of Florida’s problem earlier in the process was simple: there wasn’t much proof to point to. It’s one thing to sell an explosive offense in Gainesville, but back in June and July, that kind of product hadn’t really existed there for five years.
That has changed. Jon Sumrall has Florida sitting at 3-0, and Buster Faulkner has the Gators’ offense ranked second in the country in points. That gives Florida a much better case to make if Royal walks into the stadium on Saturday imagining what life could look like if he flipped.

Florida also has examples it can point to on the field. Vernell Brown III has taken a major step forward and become one of the more dynamic wide receivers in the country, while Dallas Wilson is beginning to match the hype that came with his five-star label.
That said, there are still obvious hurdles. None of Florida’s freshman wide receivers are playing this season, and Faulkner may not be around long enough for Royal to spend much time in his system.
Even so, if Royal is going to visit The Swamp in 2026, this weekend looks like the best version of Florida he’s going to see. And with a talent like his, the Gators will keep swinging until the phone finally stops ringing.
