Ole Miss made sure Lane Kiffin’s return to Oxford ended with a sting.
After beating LSU 32-24 on Saturday night, the Rebels turned the aftermath into a little public humiliation of their own. When the clock hit zero, Ole Miss blasted Garth Brooks’ “Callin’ Baton Rouge” through the stadium speakers - the same song LSU uses to fire up its crowd before kickoff at Tiger Stadium. At the same time, the Ole Miss band broke into “Neck,” the anthem so closely tied to LSU’s student section and band.
The scene inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium was as loud as it was pointed, with Ole Miss fans soaking in the moment after a win over the Tigers and their former coach. Lane Kiffin’s exit for LSU had left plenty of bad feelings behind, and Saturday gave the Rebels a chance to answer back in the most visible way possible.
On the field, Ole Miss built the kind of cushion that let the postgame trolling land even harder. The Rebels scored on four straight possessions to close the first half and took a 24-7 lead into the locker room. LSU fought back with 17 unanswered points to start the third quarter, but Trinidad Chambliss pushed Ole Miss back in front for good with a 14-yard touchdown run.
Ole Miss is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in SEC play. The Rebels head to Gainesville next for a Week 4 matchup with Florida, which is also 3-0 and 1-0 in the conference.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 26 on ABC.
