Jon Sumrall has built a reputation in Gainesville as the kind of coach who brings edge, energy, and a little bit of heat. He’s the same guy who went viral at SEC Media Days for his cell phone interaction, the sort of moment that had people talking well beyond Florida circles.
But this weekend, a different side of Sumrall got the spotlight.
During Florida’s annual Ladies Clinic at the Heavener Football Training Center, the program put on a day of Q & A, film review, and on-field instruction for women who wanted a better feel for the game. Ginny Sumrall was there, and when WCJB 20 asked her what most people might not know about her husband, she gave an answer that immediately caught on:
“He loves pedicures. That’s his favorite extra thing to do. Every two weeks during the football season, Jon loves to get a pedicure.”
That line has already given rival fans plenty to work with, and if Florida hits a rough patch, it’s the kind of detail that could easily become a running joke. Still, it also fits with the version of Sumrall that has emerged since he arrived in Gainesville.
He’s intense, sure, and fiery too. But so far, he’s also come across as a coach who knows how to keep control without going overboard with players or reporters. Even the SEC Media Days phone moment was played in jest.
There’s a bigger picture to all of this, too. Sumrall has managed to hold on to essentially everyone he wanted to keep, and his 2027 recruiting class is sitting just outside the top five.
He also spends time in the weight room himself and can open a water bottle, which at least puts him ahead of Billy Napier.
And if Ginny Sumrall’s comment is the latest thing to go viral, it probably says something simple: September 5 against FAU can’t get here soon enough.
