Florida gets a chance to steady itself on Saturday after last week’s collapse at Missouri, and the matchup with South Carolina comes with plenty of pressure attached. The Gators, now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in SEC play, were handed a 45-17 loss that snapped their unbeaten start. South Carolina comes in at 2-3 and 0-3 in the conference after a 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky.
Kickoff details for Florida vs. South Carolina are listed in the game information, and SEC Network will carry the broadcast.
Taylor Zarzour is on play-by-play, Matt Stinchcomb will handle analysis, and Tori Petry will report from the sideline. Florida’s radio team features Sean Kelley, Shane Matthews, and Tate Casey.
The weather in Gainesville is expected to be hot and sticky, even with Hurricane Isaias looming in the Gulf. The forecast calls for a high near 88 degrees, with heat index values possibly climbing to 100.
Rain chances rise as the afternoon goes on, and showers and thunderstorms become more likely after 3 p.m. The overall chance of rain is 70%, with southeast winds of 13-15 mph and gusts reaching 24 mph.
Florida has controlled this series for a long time. The Gators lead it 31-10-3 overall, won the last meeting 41-39 in Columbia in 2023, and have taken four straight home games against South Carolina.
The injury picture is worth watching, too. For Florida, wide receiver Vernell Brown III is questionable with a knee injury, while running back London Montgomery and cornerback Dijon Johnson are both probable. Safety Bryce Thornton has been removed from the report and is cleared to play.
South Carolina’s report is much longer. Jalewis Solomon, Jayden Sellers, Kobby Sakyi-Prah, and Josiah Thompson are out.
Quay’sheed Scott, Julian Walker, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, and Carter Miller are doubtful. Wide receiver Mazeo Bennett Jr. has been upgraded to probable.
The biggest question for Florida is how it responds after getting knocked flat in Columbia, Missouri. The Gators were riding high after the Ole Miss win, then came apart against Missouri and looked non-competitive in the second half. Saturday will say a lot about how well Jon Sumrall’s message is getting through.
There’s also the matter of getting Jadan Baugh back on track. He entered the Missouri game with four straight 100-yard rushing performances, then managed just 13 yards on 12 carries. Florida’s lack of help up front played a major role, and that was the kind of night that can derail a season-long surge.
And then there’s LaNorris Sellers, who can make life miserable for a defense in more than one way. He has thrown for 1,059 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions, and he can also hurt teams as a runner by moving the chains in key spots. With Florida’s defense struggling, this game has the ingredients to turn into a shootout if the Gators can’t find answers.

Floridas Ground Game Just Took Another Hit Against South Carolina
Floridas backfield took another hit against South Carolina when sophomore running back Duke Clark left in the second quarter with a left foot injury and did not return. With Clark out, the Gators had to shuffle their rotation and lean on other backs during the third quarter to keep the ground game moving.
The injury adds another layer of concern for a Florida offense already trying to find consistency on the ground. On a different note, linebacker Myles Graham was seen warming up before the third quarter and returned to the sideline dressed out, suggesting a possible return as the game went on. [Read more 🡒]
Florida Still Has One Worry After Late Vernell Brown Decision
Floridas offense got a little clarity this week when sophomore wide receiver Vernell Brown III was ruled out for the game against South Carolina, even after showing positive progress in practice. The knee strain is being described as low-grade, and head coach Jon Sumralls update suggested there is optimism around Browns overall direction, but the Gators will still have to move forward without one of the young receivers they have been leaning on.
There was better news on the other side of the injury report, with senior safety Bryce Thornton expected to be available after a lower-body issue. Florida also got a look at South Carolinas availability report, which included several players listed out, but Browns status remains the more immediate concern as the Gators try to sort out their depth on offense and wait for the next step in his recovery. Florida Just Made Easton Royal Feel Like A Real Possibility
Florida has put itself squarely in the middle of one of the more interesting recruiting fights on the board, and Easton Royal is suddenly looking like much more than a long-shot name to monitor. The five-star wide receiver is still committed to Texas, but he has shown real interest in the Gators and has been on campus multiple times, enough for recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong to forecast that a flip could be coming.
Royals situation is still very much unfolding, with Florida and Texas both pushing hard to keep him in their corner. For the Gators, the intrigue is obvious: landing a receiver with Royals profile would be a major win, and the fact that Florida has stayed in the mix deep into the process says plenty about how seriously this battle should be taken.
