DJ Lagway, the former Florida Gators quarterback, recently opened up about his challenging experience in Gainesville, sparking conversations among fans about the program's environment.
In an interview, Lagway revealed that during his time with the Gators, he never attended in-person classes. Instead, he completed his coursework online from home to avoid the constant attention from fans. Lagway suggested that this arrangement was encouraged by the school.
Reflecting on his experience, Lagway shared, “I was in a bubble down there, I didn’t feel like a normal person. I didn’t even know what the campus looked like.
I was really closed off. I didn’t really hang out with my teammates.
Yeah, I was depressed. I just stayed in my own land.
Stayed out of the way."
This revelation comes as Lagway transitions to Baylor, having transferred this offseason ahead of his junior year. The move marks a fresh start for the former five-star recruit, who was the top-rated quarterback in the 2024 class.
During his two seasons with Florida, Lagway showcased his talent by throwing for 4,179 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. Despite his individual performance, the team struggled, finishing with a 4-8 record last season. Now at Baylor, Lagway is expected to step into the starting quarterback role, bringing his skills and experience to Waco.
As Lagway embarks on this new chapter, fans and analysts alike will be watching to see how he adapts and thrives in a different environment.
