Hockey is back on the ice in Calgary, and the first look for Edmonton Oilers fans comes through the rookie group.
On Monday evening, the Oilers will head three hours south for a Next Gen showcase game against the Flames’ rookies, giving supporters their first chance to see the team since Edmonton was eliminated by the Anaheim Ducks from the 2026 playoffs. It won’t be the full NHL roster, of course, but it will be a mix of players with pro experience and others still trying to make their mark.
Among the Oilers expected to dress are Josh Samanski, Isaac Howard, Quinn Hutson, and Connor Clattenburg. Edmonton’s 2026 draft class is also represented, with Rudolfs Berzkalns, Andrew Robinson, Caden Harvey, and Ryan Cameron all set to be part of the group.
The Oilers haven’t announced their rookie lines yet, but the roster gives a clear picture of the talent headed into the matchup.
Edmonton’s forward group includes Berzkalns, Weston Cameron, Clattenburg, Harvey, Howard, Hutson, David Lewandowski, Viljami Marjala, Owen Michaels, William Nicholl, Rhett Pitlick, Samanski, Simon Tassy, and Olli Wahlroos.
On the blue line, the Oilers will have Beau Akey, Zach Bookman, Damien Carfagna, Tomas Cibulka, Kyle Heger, Robinson, and Samuel Sjölund.
In goal, Edmonton’s rookies will have Ryan Cameron, Nathaniel Day, Samuel Jonsson, and Eemil Vinni.
Calgary’s rookie camp roster brings its own deep group to the ice.
The Flames’ forwards are Andrew Basha, Aydar Suniev, Brett Olson, Carter Wilkie, Chase Harrington, Joe Iginla, Jonathan Castagna, Landon Amrhein, Matvei Gridin, Riley Boychuk, Ryder Boulton, Simon Katolicky, Tyson Gross, and Will Dineen.
Their defence group features Abram Wiebe, Axel Hurtig, Bode Laylin, Jakob Leander, Kent Anderson, Kyle Walker, and Mace’o Phillips.
In net, the Flames will go with Arsenii Sergeev, Kirill Zarubin, Owen Say, and Semyon Konopsky.
