Here comes the cavalry for the Edmonton Oilers. Connor McDavid, the dynamic force on the ice, was back with a bang during Wednesday’s morning skate and is expected to suit up against the Anaheim Ducks. While head coach Kris Knoblauch stopped short of a full confirmation, all signs point to the captain's return.
“It’s nice knowing that Connor is coming back and feeling well. We anticipate him playing tonight,” Knoblauch shared, leaving fans eagerly awaiting McDavid’s presence.
When asked about his readiness, McDavid kept it simple: “Yup.” He’s set to reunite with his usual linemates, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman, a trio that promises to bring excitement and energy.
On the other side, Adam Henrique is making his return from Long-Term Injured Reserve. He’s set to play his first game since January 6 against the Nashville Predators, after recovering from a broken finger. While his offensive stats have been modest this season, with two goals and 10 points, Henrique remains a key player on the penalty kill.
In a candid chat with Oilersnation’s Jason Gregor, Henrique discussed the balance between offense and defense. “I’ve gone through slumps, but it’s about working through it.
You can get frustrated when chances don’t convert, but it’s crucial to maintain a complete game,” he explained. His focus remains on being defensively sound and effective on the penalty kill.
Matthew Savoie is back from Bakersfield, returning after a brief stint in the AHL. Savoie, who’s been a consistent presence this year, leads the forwards in penalty kill minutes and has tallied nine goals and 18 points as a rookie. Alec Regula, meanwhile, continues his conditioning stint in Bakersfield, having notched a goal and an assist in his recent games.
Here’s how the Oilers are projected to line up:
- Nugent-Hopkins-McDavid-Hyman
- Savoie-Draisaitl-Roslovic
- Podkolzin-Henrique-Frederic
- Mangiapane-Lazar-Janmark
On defense:
- Ekholm-Bouchard
- Nurse-Walman
- Stastney-Emberson
In goal, Jarry and Ingram are set to backstop the team.
