Edmonton Oilers Reassign Alec Regula to Condors for Intriguing Reason

Oilers aim to reignite Alec Regula's potential with a strategic conditioning stint in the AHL after limited NHL playtime.

The Edmonton Oilers have decided to send defenseman Alec Regula to their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, on a conditioning loan. This move is designed to get Regula some much-needed ice time over the next couple of weeks.

Regula, at 25, has found himself frequently watching from the sidelines, not having played since January 20th. Both he and the Oilers are eager for him to get back into game action, especially since he's been on the bench more often than not since last season.

After joining the Oilers via waivers from the Boston Bruins in December 2024, Regula missed the entire 2024-25 season due to a knee injury. This season, he's appeared in 29 games for Edmonton, contributing three points and averaging 14:28 of ice time per game, including nearly a minute per game on the penalty kill.

Regula is under contract for another season on a two-way deal, earning $450K in the AHL. The Oilers are hopeful that some solid performances in Bakersfield will boost his confidence and help him make a strong return to the NHL lineup once his conditioning stint is complete.
