Connor McDavid Is Already Doing Something Oilers Fans Can Hardly Believe

Connor McDavid is on a record-breaking trajectory this NHL season, astonishing teammates and analysts alike with his unprecedented point-scoring pace.

Connor McDavid’s start has already pushed the conversation into absurd territory, and his teammates are the first to admit it. With 31 points in 10 games, McDavid is tracking toward roughly 260 points, a number that feels more like a fantasy league punchline than an NHL pace. Zach Hyman described it on TSN OverDrive with Aaron Korolnek, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan as “video game” territory.

McDavid has piled up 8 goals and 23 assists, and he’s already matched a rare piece of NHL history along the way. He became the second player ever to record three five-point games in his first 10 games of a season, joining Mario Lemieux, who did it in 1988-89 and 1992-93.

The reaction around the league has been just as loud. NHL analyst Jeff Marek said, “The way that he’s playing to start this season, this is sending a message to the rest of the NHL… everybody in Denver, everybody in Tampa, everybody in San Jose… let’s just end all these conversations about who the best player in the NHL is…”

Hyman didn’t try to soften the numbers. He said McDavid is the best player in the world, by a long shot, and added that the pace likely won’t last - but he still wouldn’t draw a line on what his captain can do. “He’s doing things that nobody thought anyone could do,” Hyman said.

Even Leon Draisaitl, who sits second in league scoring, is nowhere near McDavid’s pace. Draisaitl is on track for 176 points, which would still leave him 84 behind.

The awe isn’t limited to McDavid’s own locker room, either. Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Gavin McKenna, speaking before the Oilers vs.

Maple Leafs game on Saturday night, said, “Now having a taste of what the NHL is like, it makes it that much crazier. Every night you are expecting him to put up five points.

I don’t know how he’s doing it, but I got to skate with him this summer … He’s out of this world.”

For all the wild production, Hyman said McDavid hasn’t been swept up in it. According to Hyman, he stays humble and keeps the focus on Edmonton’s 8-1-1 record. McDavid has also pointed to his teammates, an improved power play and a few lucky bounces as reasons behind the explosion.

All of it is happening under new head coach Mike Babcock, who Hyman said has brought exactly what the Oilers expected. “He’s [Babcock] been great,” Hyman said. “It’s been everything we expected and hoped for.”

Jack Roslovic Returns To Edmonton With Oilers Fans Watching One Thing

Jack Roslovic has settled in quickly with the Toronto Maple Leafs, picking up four goals and 10 points in his first 10 games after signing a two-year deal. Now Roslovic is headed back to Edmonton, where the reception will be tied as much to memory as to the box score. He has already talked about facing old teams and had plenty of praise for Connor McDavids skill and work ethic, which only adds to the intrigue around a return trip that figures to draw attention from Oilers fans watching closely. Zach Hyman Sparked An Oilers Debate Fans Wont Ignore

Zach Hyman had one of those moments that gets replayed long after the final horn, and not just because of what it meant in the game. In Edmontons high-scoring win over Carolina, the Oilers winger drew a penalty and then appeared to wink afterward, a split-second reaction that quickly became a talking point for fans who were already dissecting every whistle in a tight, emotional matchup.

The debate has lingered because the call came in a game where every small edge mattered, and Hymans manner after the whistle left plenty of room for interpretation. For an Oilers team that thrives on intensity and hates giving opponents any foothold, the whole sequence became less about one minor penalty and more about how fine the line can be between selling a call and crossing into embellishment. Oilers Get A Tough Test From Torontos Hottest New Decision

The Oilers are about to get a look at a different kind of challenge in Torontos crease, with Anthony Stolarz set to start in the upcoming matchup in Edmonton.
