Duke football fans, gear up for an exciting new chapter as head coach Manny Diaz has announced the addition of quarterback Walker Eget to the Blue Devils' roster. Eget, a seasoned player with a solid track record at San Jose State University, brings experience and skill to the table.
Over five seasons with the Spartans, Eget played in 27 games, starting 18 of them. His leadership helped guide the team to a 29-33 overall record and a 19-20 mark in conference play, along with appearances in three bowl games, including back-to-back Hawai'i Bowls in 2023 and 2024 and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2022.
Last fall, Eget showcased his arm strength and field vision by starting 11 games, completing 232 of 393 passes for 3,051 yards. His 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions highlight his ability to make plays while maintaining control.
On the ground, he added 96 rushing yards on 33 attempts. Eget's performance placed him among the Mountain West Conference leaders in several categories, including passing yards per game and total offensive yards per game.
Eget's influence on the Spartans' offense was significant, with the team ranking in the top 10 nationally in third-down conversion percentage and team passing efficiency. Notably, he threw for 458 yards against Hawai'i and delivered a standout performance against Stanford with 473 passing yards and three touchdowns, marking one of the top performances in the FBS regular season.
His 2024 season saw him appear in 12 games, starting seven, where he threw for 2,504 yards and 13 touchdowns. In the thrilling Hawai'i Bowl against South Florida, he completed 33 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns.
Against No. 13 Boise State, Eget impressed with 446 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Eget's journey started in 2021, with limited action as a true freshman, but he quickly made his mark. Standing at 6-3 and weighing 225 pounds, the Santa Clarita, California native was a standout at West Ranch High, earning first-team All-Foothill League honors and being named the 2019 Los Angeles Daily News Newcomer of the Year.
With one season of eligibility remaining, Eget's addition to Duke is poised to bring a new dynamic to the Blue Devils' offense. His proven track record and leadership could be just what the team needs to make a splash in the upcoming season.
