Kyrie Irving Stuns Fans as Mavs Rule Him Out for Season

Mavericks confirm Kyrie Irving will sit out the entire 2025-26 season, focusing on a full recovery for his anticipated return next year.

In a significant update for the Dallas Mavericks, it was announced on February 18th that Kyrie Irving, the future Hall of Fame guard, will sit out the entire 2025-26 season. This decision, initially reported by ESPN's Shams Charania, comes as both Irving and the Mavericks prioritize his full recovery from a torn ACL suffered nearly a year ago.

Irving has already missed 54 games this season, aligning with expectations following his injury in March 2025. There was initial optimism about his return post-All-Star break, but the focus has now shifted to ensuring he comes back at full strength for the 2026-27 season.

In a statement, Irving expressed his gratitude towards the Mavericks organization, teammates, and fans for their unwavering support. "This decision wasn't easy, but it's the right one," he said. "I am looking forward to coming back stronger next season."

As one of the most seasoned players in the NBA, Irving's absence will be felt on a Mavericks roster brimming with young talent, including several former Duke Blue Devils. His impressive career includes being the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, nine All-Star appearances, and a memorable NBA Championship win in 2016 alongside LeBron James. He boasts career averages of 23.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.

While at Duke, Irving made a significant impact, averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals, leading the team to a Sweet Sixteen berth.

The Mavericks are set to play their next game on Friday, February 20th, at 7:30 p.m. ET, where fans can still catch several former Blue Devils in action.
