Duke’s offense is heading into training camp with more questions than answers, and the wide receiver room sits right at the center of that uncertainty.
The Blue Devils have to replace a lot, and the turnover is especially sharp on the outside. Cooper Barkate is gone to Miami, Que'Sean Brown has moved on to Virginia Tech, and Sahmir Hagans has exhausted his collegiate eligibility. That leaves Duke trying to identify its next WR1 while also adjusting to a new quarterback in San Jose State transfer Walker Eget, who will take over for star quarterback Darian Mensah.
That’s why Penn transfer Jared Richardson has become such an intriguing name in the mix. Duke needs someone who can step into a featured role quickly, and Richardson looks like the best candidate to do it.
At 6'2" and 220 pounds, he brings the kind of frame that jumps off the page for an ACC receiver. He also brings production that is hard to ignore. Over his career at Penn, the Pennsylvania native posted 193 catches for 2,505 yards and 27 touchdowns.
His final season was the one that really put him on the map. In 2025, Richardson led the Ivy League with 80 receptions and 12 receiving touchdowns, and he finished second in the conference with 1,033 receiving yards. He was also the 2025 First Team FCS Football Central All-American.
Duke will have other options at receiver, including Charlotte transfer Javen Nicholas and likely one of the younger returners such as Jaivon Solomon or Jayden Moore. But Richardson feels like the cleanest fit to replace Barkate as Eget’s top target.
The Blue Devils’ passing game is going to look very different this season, and it’s tough to know how much of a drop-off is coming. Still, Richardson’s size, track record, and breakout 2025 season make him one of the most compelling players to watch in camp.
