Former Duke Standout Theo Winegar Wins At Wimbledon

Rising star Theo Winegar makes a strong debut at Wimbledon, signaling his ascent in the ATP doubles ranks with a decisive first-round victory.

Theo Winegar’s Wimbledon run got off to a clean start Friday, as the former Duke men’s tennis doubles All-America picked up a first-round win at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Winegar, now ranked No. 79 in the ATP doubles rankings after breaking into the top 100 for the first time in May, teamed with Jean-Julien Rojer for a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Yuki Bhambri and Michael Venus.

The match turned on a pair of key stretches. After the opening set settled at 2-2, Rojer and Winegar strung together a hold-break-hold run to seize control. In the second set, they were locked at 3-3 before breaking and then holding to build a 5-3 edge, finishing the job from there.

That sends the duo into the second round, where they’ll meet No. 9 seed Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

Winegar’s latest result adds to a strong stretch that has already included major milestones this year. He earned ITA Doubles All-America honors in 2025 after finishing No. 3 in the final doubles rankings with Cooper Williams, and he was also named to the All-ACC Doubles First Team in 2025.

Before that, pairing with Williams earned Winegar a place in the US Open main draw last summer. The pair won their first-round match against Petr Nouza and Patrik Rikl of the Czech Republic, then fell in a tight second-round battle with fourth-seeded Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz, 7-6, 7-6.

During his time as a Blue Devil, Winegar led Duke with 25 doubles wins, going 25-14 overall. He posted a 14-7 mark in dual matches and went 4-4 in conference play.

Among his standout victories with Williams were wins over the No. 21 Notre Dame duo of Sebastian Dominko and Chase Thompson in the ACC Championship second round, the No.

6 NC State pairing of Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek in the ACC Championship quarterfinals, and the No. 9 Tennessee team of Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno in the NCAA Championship second round.

Winegar graduated from Columbia in May 2024 before joining Duke for the 2024-25 season, and he also completed his Master of Management Studies from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business in May 2025.

Cameron Boozer Just Gave Duke Fans Another Reason To Feel Validated

Cameron Boozer left Duke with the kind of freshman season that tends to reassure everyone involved: elite production, major honors and a clear sense that he belonged on the biggest stage in college basketball. He piled up 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, earned All-American recognition and took home the Naismith College Player of the Year award, all while helping push Duke to a 35-3 record and an Elite Eight run.

Now, at his introductory press conference, Boozer was already sounding like a player who sees the college stop as more than just a bridge to the next level.
