Duke may be getting closer to having its full backcourt available, and Caleb Foster appears to be trending toward a return at just the right time.
After the Blue Devils handled Tennessee on Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor, Jon Scheyer said Foster "has a chance" to play Sunday when Duke visits Kansas in its third and final exhibition game. Foster, a senior guard, has missed the first two exhibition contests, but the door is now open for him to suit up.
Jon Scheyer:
"Caleb (Foster) has a chance of playing Sunday."
Says he's been in Jon's ear, dying to play.

That would be a welcome development for a Duke team that has already looked sharp without him. The Blue Devils were expected to be loaded in the backcourt with Wisconsin transfer John Blackwell and 5-star freshman Deron Rippey, and early returns have backed that up.
Rippey was the headliner against Tennessee, pouring in 21 points to pace all scorers in the blowout. Blackwell wasn’t far behind, finishing with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Cayden Boozer added a different kind of impact. His scoring didn’t jump off the page the way Rippey’s and Blackwell’s did, but he led Duke with six assists and finished at +24, a strong sign of how much his playmaking helps the Blue Devils function.
Foster will now be trying to carve out his place in a group that already has some real momentum. For a veteran guard who has seen plenty of different looks in Durham, that shouldn’t be a major obstacle.
The bigger challenge for Scheyer is sorting out the minutes in what’s shaping up to be a crowded backcourt. Sunday could give him his first real chance to start piecing that together if Foster is able to go.
If Foster does play, it sounds likely he’ll be limited. Duke would love to walk out of The Phog with a win, but staying healthy and getting ready for the regular season still matters more.
For Foster, the interest is obvious: he wants on the floor. And unless something changes between now and Sunday, there’s a good chance he gets that chance against Kansas.
Sunday will be Duke’s last exhibition test before the games count. The Blue Devils open the regular season at home against Army on Monday, November 2nd, at Cameron Indoor.

Duke Fans Finally Got An Answer On Kimari Robinsons Sideline Incident
A tense sideline moment during a recent game drew plenty of attention from Duke fans, and Manny Diaz addressed it afterward in clear terms. Kimari Robinson pushed his trainers hand away after getting frustrated while DaShawn Stone was down injured on the field, and Diaz said the reaction fell below the programs standards.
Robinson has since apologized both privately and publicly, and he also acknowledged the mistake in his own statement while expressing concern for Stone. For Duke, the important part now is that the matter is being handled internally, but the incident offered a glimpse of how quickly emotions can boil over when a teammate is hurt and the pressure is on. Wake Forest Fans Have A New Reason To Watch Jake Dickert
Marylands decision to move on from Mike Locksley after a 2-5 start to the 2026 season closes a long chapter in College Park, but it also opens an important one for a program that now has to get its next hire right. Locksley went 39-54 over more than seven seasons, and the Terps are now in the market for a coach who can stabilize the program and give athletic director Jim Smith a successful first major hire.
Several names are already circulating, and one that will draw extra attention in the ACC is Jake Dickert. Along with Manny Diaz, Jason Eck, Bryant Haines, Mike Shanahan, Charles Huff, Brian Kelly and Dan Mullen, Dickert is being discussed as part of Marylands early pool of possible candidates, and the search will be closely watched by everyone in the league who understands how one move like this can ripple outward. Duke Just Sent An Early Warning About How Dangerous This Team Looks
Dukes exhibition win over Tennessee offered an early look at a roster that already seems to have a clear identity. The Blue Devils controlled the game from the start, with the defense setting the tone and creating the kind of pressure that can make an opponent look uncomfortable for long stretches. It was the kind of preseason performance that does not solve every question, but it does tell you this group has both length and energy in the right places.
Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, Deron Rippey and John Blackwell all stood out in the win, giving Duke a few different looks and a strong sense of depth. Cameron Williams, meanwhile, appears to be a little further behind the others, with illness and a more raw skill set making him a longer-term development project. For a team trying to build toward the season, that mix of immediate impact and unfinished pieces is exactly what makes this roster worth watching. [Read more 🡒]
