Duke will begin ACC play on Dec. 30 in Atlanta, where Georgia Tech is set to be the Blue Devils’ first conference opponent of the 2026-27 season.
That opener kicks off what could be a much tougher league grind for Jon Scheyer’s team than the one Duke has cruised through in recent years. The Blue Devils are still the clear favorite in the ACC, but the conference looks far more crowded heading into 2026-27.
Duke has gone 36-2 in ACC play over the last two seasons while winning back-to-back regular-season and tournament titles. That kind of run has made the Blue Devils the standard in the league, but there are signs the path ahead may not be nearly as smooth.
The ACC is back to an 18-game schedule, with each team getting a primary partner and a variable partner that it plays home and away in a given season. Duke’s primary partner remains North Carolina, while its variable partner for 2026-27 is Virginia. Last season, that variable spot belonged to Louisville, and Duke beat the Cardinals twice.
The league itself should be deeper this time around. Louisville landed what was described as the best portal class in the country.
Miami and Virginia both bring highly talented rosters into the season. North Carolina also sits in the mix as a team that has plenty of intrigue, even if it still comes with questions.
Duke is still expected to be the team everyone is chasing. But after the way the ACC has looked in recent years, this season may offer more resistance than the Blue Devils have seen during their recent run of dominance.
