Dukes 2028 Recruiting Push Just Added Another Major Name

Duke's pursuit of top-tier talent intensifies as they extend offers to standout young prospects, fueling anticipation for their future powerhouse lineup.

Duke’s push in the 2028 class got louder on Wednesday, and Mason Collins was part of the reason why.

Not long after Faith Family Academy (Texas) five-star point guard Josiah Rose announced his Blue Devils offer from fifth-year head coach Jon Scheyer and Duke’s recruiting staff, The Tatnall School (Del.) five-star forward Mason Collins followed by sharing his own offer from Durham on social media. With those two additions, Duke doubled its list of 2028 targets in a single day.

Before Wednesday, the Blue Devils had offered only St. Francis High School (Calif.) five-star center Yann Kamagate and Coatesville Area High School (Pa.) five-star small forward Colton Hiller, the Nos. 1 and 2 overall prospects in the 247Sports 2028 Composite, respectively.

Collins now sits at No. 8 overall, No. 3 at his position, and No. 1 in Delaware among 2028 players. The 6-foot-6, 195-pound forward is also the son of Mardy Collins, a former Temple star and first-round pick in the 2006 NBA Draft who now coaches varsity boys basketball at The Tatnall School.

Duke’s interest in Collins didn’t come out of nowhere. As Duke Blue Devils On SI has followed since January, the program has been in touch with the Collins family for nearly a year.

The offer comes with plenty of competition. According to 247Sports, Collins’ list of suitors is already longer than a dozen schools, and ACC programs make up just over half of that group. Miami, NC State, Florida State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Virginia were all in the mix before Duke joined with its own bid.

Ballislife’s Rodger Bohn gave Collins a strong scouting report last week, calling him “One of the most polished players in the class of 2028” and describing him as a versatile guard who “brings you a little bit of everything on the hardwood,” with playmaking, IQ, and scoring ability.

Collins has also been clear about what he wants from his next school. In an interview with 247Sports’ Jacob Polacheck, he said, “For me, the main three things are a coach that's going to trust me, somewhere that feels like home, and somewhere I can develop to go where I want to go, which is the NBA. Those are the three main things I'm looking for...

"I can score, pass, shoot, get my teammates involved, run the floor, be a secondary ball handler, and guard the other team's best player. I'm doing everything I can to help my team win.”

He still hasn’t set a decision date or named finalists.

And Collins has already seen Duke up close. He was in Washington, D.C., in February to watch the 2025-26 Blue Devils beat eventual national champion Michigan, 68-63, in a regular-season game.

Duke Fans Finally Got An Answer On Kimari Robinsons Sideline Incident

A tense sideline moment during a recent game drew plenty of attention from Duke fans, and Manny Diaz addressed it afterward in clear terms. Kimari Robinson pushed his trainers hand away after getting frustrated while DaShawn Stone was down injured on the field, and Diaz said the reaction fell below the programs standards.

Robinson has since apologized both privately and publicly, and he also acknowledged the mistake in his own statement while expressing concern for Stone. For Duke, the important part now is that the matter is being handled internally, but the incident offered a glimpse of how quickly emotions can boil over when a teammate is hurt and the pressure is on. Wake Forest Fans Have A New Reason To Watch Jake Dickert

Marylands decision to move on from Mike Locksley after a 2-5 start to the 2026 season closes a long chapter in College Park, but it also opens an important one for a program that now has to get its next hire right. Locksley went 39-54 over more than seven seasons, and the Terps are now in the market for a coach who can stabilize the program and give athletic director Jim Smith a successful first major hire.

Several names are already circulating, and one that will draw extra attention in the ACC is Jake Dickert. Along with Manny Diaz, Jason Eck, Bryant Haines, Mike Shanahan, Charles Huff, Brian Kelly and Dan Mullen, Dickert is being discussed as part of Marylands early pool of possible candidates, and the search will be closely watched by everyone in the league who understands how one move like this can ripple outward. Dukes Guard Rotation Just Got More Complicated Before Kansas

Caleb Fosters return is beginning to edge back into the conversation for Duke, and that matters with Kansas on deck for the Blue Devils third exhibition game. The senior guard has missed the first two tuneups, but Jon Scheyer said Foster has a chance to play, a sign that his recovery is moving in the right direction as Duke inches closer to the games that count.

For a team that has already gotten solid production from its other guards, Fosters availability only adds another layer to an already crowded backcourt picture. Duke has handled his absence well so far, but the bigger question now is how the rotation settles once he is healthy enough to rejoin it, with Scheyer indicating Foster should be ready when the regular season opener arrives.
