Duke’s transfer class brings plenty of intrigue, but not every newcomer is walking into an easy path to production.
That’s the reality for a Blue Devils roster that has been reshaped by departures and replenished by Manny Diaz and his staff with help from the portal. The group gives Duke more bodies and more options, but a lot of these additions are still trying to prove they can deliver at the Power Four level. That uncertainty is part of what could make this team so volatile in 2026.
Two defensive backs stand out as players who may not match the NIL buzz attached to them, at least not right away.
Che Ojarikre arrives from Stanford with an estimated 2026 valuation of $472,928 from The NIL Standard, which ranks seventh among Duke’s incoming transfers. He brings a real skill set to the table, but the safety room is crowded enough that nothing is guaranteed. Duke also added Patrick Smith-Young from North Texas, veteran DaShawn Stone looks like a Week 1 starter, and returner Andrew Pellicciotta has already shown promise.
Ojarikre did produce at Stanford last season, finishing with 30 tackles and two pass deflections. The talent is there. The issue is opportunity, because there are already several capable safeties in the room, and he’ll have to win his way onto the field.
Dylan Flowers is in a similar spot, though his path comes with a different kind of résumé. His college career has taken him from Southern Utah to BYU, then JUCO College of the Canyons, and finally Western Kentucky before landing at Duke. At Western Kentucky in 2025, he recorded 33 total tackles, four pass deflections and a forced fumble.
Flowers has one of the stronger production profiles among Duke’s incoming transfers, but the cornerback group is packed as well. His NIL valuation sits at $171,404, the highest among Duke’s incoming transfer corners, which means expectations will follow him. He’ll be competing with returners Landan Callahan and Kimari Robinson, plus Montana transfer Kyon Loud.
Diaz said early in fall camp that there are "no jobs claimed" in the secondary, so the competition is very much alive. That gives Flowers a real opening, but it also means Duke is asking him to justify a valuation that puts him near the top of the incoming cornerback class.

Jon Scheyer Just Raised The Stakes In Dukes UNC Recruiting Battle
Duke has stepped further into the 2027 recruiting picture by extending an offer to 5-star small forward DeMarcus Henry, a name that has already been on North Carolinas radar as one of its top targets in the class. For Jon Scheyer and his staff, it is another reminder of how aggressively Duke has positioned itself in the early stages of this cycle, with the Blue Devils already working through a class that includes commitments and offers across several priority levels.
The timing matters because Henry had already narrowed his focus before Duke jumped in, and the new offer could force a fresh look at where things stand. In a rivalry that rarely needs extra fuel, Scheyers recruiting reputation gives Duke real pull, and this is the kind of move that can shift the conversation quickly when both sides are chasing the same elite talent. Duke Wrestling Just Showed Where This Roster Needs To Improve
Duke wrestling is already looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, and head coach Glen Lanham made it clear the Blue Devils are trying to fortify the roster before it gets there. The program announced the signing of six incoming freshmen, a group that includes Hunter Berger, Colby Vital, Austin Laws, Charlie Lussier, Brendan Kelly and Jack Dragoumanos, with Lanham pointing to their competitive experience as a key reason they fit what Duke is trying to build.
For a program that wants more stability and scoring options throughout the lineup, the emphasis on depth in the lower weight classes stands out. That kind of recruiting haul does not solve everything overnight, but it does show where Duke believes the roster needs the most help, and it gives the Blue Devils a clearer picture of how they want to shape the next wave of talent.
