Duke’s push for Beckham Black may have a familiar edge to it.
The Blue Devils are already working with momentum in the 2027 class, where Kager Knueppel is the lone commitment so far. They also have offers out to several other prospects, including Black, the No. 1 overall player in the class.
And now there’s a possible assist coming from a name Duke fans know well.
Field of 68 recruiting analyst Sam Lance, speaking on the HogvilleNET podcast while discussing top guards and recruits in the 2027 class, brought up Black as a target for both Arkansas and Duke. Lance said he expects Duke to land one of the class’s top guards and pointed to Black as a player the Blue Devils could be tough for to beat out.
"Beckham turns into that top guard on Duke's board. I think it's going to be really hard, if Duke wants to push for Beckham Black, I would see it being hard to say no," Lance said.
"It's Duke. Paolo Banchero, obviously on the same as Beckham Black's older brother, Anthony Black in the NBA; he and Beckham are pretty close.
He and Paolo, Beckham told me he's been telling him, 'You better go.' Of course, Arkansas, is where Anthony went to school.
It's John Calipari with guards."
For Duke, the appeal is clear: the Blue Devils are already sitting on the No. 1 overall recruiting class for 2026-27, have added a solid transfer portal group, and are bringing back key pieces as they try to bounce back from last year’s Elite Eight exit.
The bigger picture matters too. Duke’s future roster building is already underway, and Black is one of the names worth watching closely as that next wave starts to take shape.
