Duke’s first ACC game of the season comes with a pretty encouraging injury report, and the biggest headline is one the Blue Devils have been waiting on since before kickoff against Tulane: wide receiver Que'Sean Nicholas is expected to make his Duke debut against Stanford.
Nicholas, the Charlotte transfer, was ruled out shortly before the Blue Devils opened the 2026 regular season against Tulane for undisclosed reasons and has missed Duke’s first two games. That absence left a noticeable hole in a receiver group that was supposed to be led by Nicholas and Penn transfer Jared Richardson after Duke lost its top three wideouts from last season. Through two games, that duo has combined for zero catches.
Even with Nicholas sidelined, Idaho State transfer Jonah Burton has stepped up and led Duke in receiving in both games. But getting Nicholas back changes the shape of this offense. He’s described as a deep threat, and that kind of speed element gives Manny Diaz’s group something it has not had through the first two weeks.
The rest of the injury picture is relatively light, which is another good sign for a Duke team that has opened the year with some momentum after its road win at Illinois. There aren’t many major pieces expected to miss Saturday’s game against Stanford, and that matters as the Blue Devils try to avoid a slip-up at home.
At cornerback, Duke appears to have settled into a rotation that has worked well. Montana transfer Kyon Loud and Western Kentucky transfer Dylan Flowers have emerged as the starters, while returner Landan Callahan has also gotten snaps.
Northwestern transfer Evan Smith also made one of the game-changing plays against Illinois. Meanwhile, Robinson has not played this season and does not appear likely to return in Week 3.
There is also a watch item in the secondary with DaShawn Stone. The returner has totaled nine tackles so far this season and remains one of the key pieces back there. Duke would like to have him available against the Cardinal.
All told, the Blue Devils enter league play in decent shape on the injury front, and the return of Nicholas gives them a notable boost as they look to keep their fast start rolling.
