Duke’s offense found a goal in each half Tuesday night, and that was enough to deliver a 2-0 men’s soccer win over Queens at Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium.
The Blue Devils got the night’s first breakthrough from freshman Jack Ottley, then finished the job late when fellow freshman Ethan Congleton added insurance. Graduate Colin Gallagher backed it up with two saves, giving Duke its first shutout of the season.
Queens got the first real look in the 13th minute, when Gallagher was forced into a save from outside the box. Duke answered seven minutes later when Thomas Vold lined up a strong shot from the 18-yard line, only to see it blocked by a Queens defender.
Ottley broke through in the 20th minute, finishing with his right foot after a cross from Congleton. The goal was Ottley’s third of the season and pushed him to 10 points, making him the first Blue Devil to reach double digits this year.
Duke nearly doubled the lead before halftime. Jonah Wolf hit the right post in the 35th minute, but the Blue Devils still carried a 1-0 edge into the break.
The second half brought more close calls before Duke finally added the cushion it had been pressing for. Nikolai Bull Jorgensen hit the crossbar on a header in the 58th minute, and Emmanuel Frimpong was turned away by a diving stop in the 65th.
Congleton then delivered in the 79th minute, curling in a left-footed shot for his second goal of the season. Jamie Kabuusu, making his 2026 debut after missing the first six matches because of injury, set up the score along with Ari Racaj.
Gallagher’s late save sealed the shutout and closed the book on a clean defensive night for Duke.
The Blue Devils finished with six shots on goal while holding Queens to two. They also controlled the corner kick count, 8-1.
Ottley has now scored in back-to-back matches and owns three goals on the season. With four assists to go with those finishes, he leads Duke with 10 total points.
Congleton’s goal and assist gave him three points on the night, bringing his season total to six. Kabuusu picked up his first point of the year with the assist on Duke’s second goal, while Racaj also earned his first helper of the season.
Duke, now 3-4 overall and 0-2 in ACC play, returns home Friday, Sept. 18, to face Virginia Tech at Freeman Field at Koskinen Stadium. The Blue Devils and Hokies, who are 3-2-1 and 1-0-1 in ACC play, are set for a 7 p.m. start, with streaming on ACC Network Extra.
Halftime will feature a celebration of Duke’s 1986 National Championship team as part of Alumni Weekend, and fans are encouraged to arrive early for a 1986 National Championship pennant, while supplies last.
