Duke’s basketball pipeline is already making noise, and Wednesday could bring another big name into the fold. Five-star small forward Asa Montgomery is set to announce his college decision at 1:30 pm ET, and all signs point to the Blue Devils. Duke has been the clear frontrunner since Montgomery visited Durham in early October, and that lead only hardened when he canceled planned trips to Arizona and Louisville later in the month.
The buzz around Montgomery has been strong enough that multiple experts have already logged predictions for Duke. If it goes the way many expect, he would join a class that already includes five-star wing Kager Knueppel and Australian point guard Luke Paul. Jon Scheyer’s bigger-picture goal is also still in play: land Montgomery, then potentially add 2028 No. 1 overall recruit Colton Hiller if he commits and reclassifies into the 2027 cycle.
Meanwhile, Duke’s former stars are making plenty of noise at the next level. Reigning Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg has wasted no time turning his second NBA season into something bigger.
Through three games, he’s putting up 25/5/6 with 5.4 stocks and shooting 57/36/90. He’s still only 19, which makes the early surge look even louder.
Cameron Boozer is giving Duke another reason to keep tabs on the NBA early this season. His shot has been a little off to start, but the production is there, and the Memphis Grizzlies are 4-0 after winning just 24 games last season. The source of that jump is hard to miss.
Jayson Tatum is back in full force, too. The former Blue Devil dropped 40 points against the Brooklyn Nets and finished the job with a buzzer-beating game-winner for the Boston Celtics. Duke’s men’s basketball account summed it up with: “CBO CALLED GAME
(also dropped 40 👀👀👀)”
On the football side, Manny Diaz and Duke are turning their attention to a key home game against Boston College. The Eagles come in having won two straight, including a 22-point win over Georgia Tech, the same Georgia Tech team that beat Duke a few weeks ago.
At 5-2, the Blue Devils need this one. The final month does them no favors, with three of the last four games on the schedule coming on the road.
Duke still has trips to NC State, Miami and Wake Forest left, plus a home date with Clemson. That makes this Boston College matchup a must-handle spot for the Blue Devils.

Duke Freshmen Just Gave Jon Scheyer A Real Rotation Problem
Duke is coming out of preseason with something every coach wants and every rotation chart hates: options. As the Blue Devils get ready to host Army in their regular-season opener, a handful of freshmen have already made the case that they belong in the mix, with Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, Deron Rippey Jr., Cameron Williams and Bryson Howard all showing different flashes of what they can bring. For Jon Scheyer, the early challenge is less about finding talent than figuring out how to sort through it.
The upside is obvious, but so is the uncertainty that comes with freshmen learning the pace and demands of college basketball. Some of those roles figure to change from game to game as Duke settles in, which gives the staff flexibility but also creates a tricky balancing act once the games start counting. The opener should offer a first real look at how much trust Scheyer is willing to place in that young group right away. [Read more 🡒]
Duke Faces A Real Test As Boston College Brings New Momentum
Boston College is showing up to this Atlantic Coast Conference matchup with a little more life than its record might suggest, and Duke will have to be ready for it. The Eagles have pieced together back-to-back comeback wins, leaning on the kind of late-game resilience that can change the feel of a season, and now they get their first meeting with Duke since 2022 in a game that should tell both teams something.
For the Blue Devils, the timing is interesting after a close win over Virginia, the kind of game that can either sharpen a team or leave it vulnerable if the edge slips. Duke will be watching its own health as well, with Walker Eget expected to play despite a recent finger injury, while Boston College brings Mason McKenzie, Bo MacCormack III and a bit of momentum into a matchup that suddenly looks more demanding than it might have a few weeks ago. Kyrie And Cooper Flagg Are Giving Duke Fans A New Team To Watch
For Duke fans keeping one eye on the college game and another on the pros, Dallas has become a pretty easy team to track. Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg, two former Blue Devils at very different stages of their careers, are sharing the same backcourt in a way that gives the program a fresh NBA storyline to follow. Irving has made it clear he is happy where he is, while also speaking warmly about the Mavericks franchise and its fan base.
Flagg, meanwhile, has already given Dallas plenty to enjoy in his rookie year after arriving as the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. His early run has included a historic 51-point outburst as a teenager, the kind of performance that turns a promising season into appointment viewing. For Duke supporters, the appeal is obvious: one proven star and one rising one, both wearing the same uniform, with plenty still to unfold. [Read more 🡒]
