With the early signing period looming, N.C. State is still working the Class of 2018 hard, and Dave Doeren has his eye on another former in-state ACC commitment.
The name to watch is Taiyon Palmer, a 6-1, 178-pound cornerback from Archer High in Lawrenceville, Ga. Palmer had been committed to Duke since September 2016, according to 247sports, but he backed off that pledge on Nov. 30 and reopened his recruitment.
A few days later, on Dec. 11, he posted on Twitter that he had received an offer from N.C. State.
If Palmer ends up signing with the Wolfpack during the early signing period, it would give Doeren and his staff another win with a player who had previously been headed to a different ACC school. Earlier this month, N.C.
State landed four-star linebacker Payton Wilson of Orange High School, who had committed to North Carolina in May before decommitting in November. Wilson then committed to the Wolfpack on Dec. 1, one day after Doeren and his staff visited him and his family at home.
Palmer is ranked as the No. 20 cornerback in the country and was viewed as the top recruit in Duke’s 2018 class, according to 247sports. He also posted on Twitter Tuesday that he is taking an official visit to Vanderbilt this weekend.
The early signing period runs Dec. 20-22. Any players who do not sign then will have to wait for the regular signing period, which runs from Feb. 7 until April 1.

Duke Just Set Up One Of College Basketballs Toughest Tests
Duke has filled another notable spot on its non-conference calendar, adding Harvard to the mix for Dec. 4 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The game is part of the Brotherhood Run series and brings Tommy Amaker, a former Blue Devil, back to campus as the Crimson add a familiar name to a schedule already packed with high-level tests.
The broader slate is shaping up as one of the more demanding ones in the country, with UConn, Illinois, Florida, Texas Tech and Gonzaga all on deck for 2026-27.
