Duke Faces Early Test In Battle For Elite 2028 Wing

Duke Basketball's courtship of a top 2028 prospect heats up as Colton Hiller visits, signaling pivotal recruiting battles on the horizon.

Duke will have one of the nation’s top young basketball prospects on campus Monday, as five-star small forward Colton Hiller is set for an official visit.

Hiller, a Coatesville, Pennsylvania native in the 2028 class, has quickly become one of the biggest names on the recruiting board. He already owns 26 offers, and the early picture points to a tight battle between Duke and Florida.

The Blue Devils officially entered the mix in June when they offered Hiller a scholarship. They also got him on campus last season for their non-conference game against Michigan in Washington D.C. After that trip, Hiller told The Devil's Den it was an awesome and great experience while attending the game.

Monday’s visit will be only his second official stop of the summer and fall. He went to Florida on September 5, and that visit may loom large given where this recruitment appears headed.

There may be another wrinkle working in the Gators’ favor. Hiller’s brother, Maxwell, is the No. 2 overall player in the 2027 football recruiting class and committed to Florida in April. Maxwell plans to enroll in December and get to campus early.

That family connection could be the toughest hurdle for Duke to clear. Florida also brings plenty of momentum on the basketball side, having won a title just two seasons ago.

Even so, Scheyer and his staff have kept their recruiting machine rolling. Duke signed the No. 1 overall class in the 2026 cycle, and now the focus has shifted to the next wave, with Hiller sitting near the top of the board.
