The Arizona Fall League is barely underway, and Zyhir Hope is already making his presence felt.
Hope, the Tigers’ top prospect and the centerpiece of the Tarik Skubal trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers in early August, connected for his first AFL home run on Monday, Oct. 12.
The blast came in the first inning for the Scottsdale Scorpions, a two-run opposite-field shot to left on a 95-mph pitch from Dodgers right-hander Brooks Auger. Hope sent it out at 101 mph off the bat.
Through five games in Arizona, Hope has put together a strong start: five RBIs and an .873 OPS. He’s struck out eight times, but he’s also drawn five walks and is reaching base at a .444 clip.
Hope, 21, finished the regular season at Double-A Erie after coming over from the Dodgers with pitching prospects Brady Smith and River Ryan in the deal for Skubal. He closed his 2026 season with 29 homers, 111 RBIs and 26 stolen bases.
The outfielder is now MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 Tigers prospect after Max Clark graduated to the major leagues late in the 2026 season.
Hope isn’t the only Detroit farmhand in the AFL drawing attention. Shortstop Bryce Rainer, the Tigers’ No. 2 prospect, knocked in a run with an RBI double in Monday’s game before weather suspended it with Scottsdale leading Glendale, tied at 6. Rainer has a .698 OPS through four games.
Scottsdale has opened 5-1, and the Scorpions’ roster also includes prospects from the Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants and Tampa Bay Rays.
The Arizona Fall League started last weekend and runs through early November.
Here’s how the Tigers’ prospects have fared in Arizona through Monday, Oct. 12:

AJ Hinch Is Reshaping The Tigers In A Way Fans Will Notice
AJ Hinchs offseason imprint on the Tigers is starting to show in the sort of places fans notice once spring rolls around. The coaching staff has already been reshaped, with the club moving on from first base coach Anthony Sanders and assistant pitching coach Juan Nieves as part of a broader overhaul under the manager, a sign that Hinch is not treating this as a light touch-up but as a real reset around the edges of the dugout.
The changes come as Detroit also keeps an eye on the pipeline, where minor leaguers in the Arizona Fall League are getting early looks and the organizations long-term picture is still taking shape. Outfield prospect Zyhir Hope has opened with a promising start there, while trade chatter around Tarik Skubal at the deadline showed how much interest the Tigers can draw when other clubs start calling, even if the bigger deal never quite came together. Tigers Face A Big Max Clark Decision Before His Price Climbs
The Tigers have spent the past couple of years building around a young core, with Riley Greene, Dillon Dingler, Spencer Torkelson and Hao-Yu Lee all part of the conversation as the organization pushes toward a longer competitive window. Kevin McGonigle already has his eight-year deal, and that has naturally sharpened the focus on the next wave of players who could be locked in before their price tags rise.
Max Clark is now right in that discussion, especially after his first season offered the kind of all-around promise teams dream on from a premium young player. Detroit has every reason to think about a long-term extension sooner rather than later, and the question is how aggressive the front office wants to be while Clark is still early in his major league story. Tarik Skubal Is Reviving A Tigers Frustration Fans Know Too Well
Tarik Skubals latest October turn came in a different uniform, but it still carried familiar weight for Tigers fans who watched him anchor Detroits postseason push earlier this year. In Game 1 of the NLCS for the Dodgers against the Brewers, he worked five innings and allowed two runs, a shorter outing than the six-inning start he delivered in the 2025 ALDS with the Tigers, as Los Angeles leaned on its bullpen to finish the job.
What made the night linger was the same old postseason tension Skubal tends to create: he gave his team a real chance, then the relief corps had to take over with plenty still hanging in the balance. The Dodgers left six men on base after he exited, and Skubal is expected to get another shot later in the series, which only adds another layer for Detroit observers tracking how his October keeps unfolding beyond the Tigers season.
