The Detroit Tigers have made pitching their priority this offseason, and it shows. By retaining Tarik Skubal and adding some serious firepower to their starting rotation, the Tigers are clearly aiming high. They've inked a deal with Framber Valdez and brought back the veteran presence of Justin Verlander, setting the stage for what could be one of the most formidable rotations in baseball.
But the Tigers didn't stop there. They've also bolstered their bullpen by signing Kenley Jansen and re-signing Kyle Finnegan. These moves are a clear indication that Detroit is serious about shoring up their pitching from start to finish.
However, questions remain about the bullpen's depth as we head into the 2026 season. While Jansen and Finnegan are set to be key figures in late-game situations, the challenge lies in who will handle the innings leading up to them.
Manager A.J. Hinch might need to get creative, especially with some uncertainties in the bullpen.
Tigers insider Jason Beck points out that while the back end of the bullpen is strong, the middle relief needs attention. With Troy Melton sidelined until at least the end of May and both Beau Briske and Brant Hurter dealing with inconsistencies, Hinch will have to strategize carefully. Tyler Holton is a versatile asset, but he can't shoulder the entire load in April.
The Tigers will need someone to step up and fill the gap, bridging the innings to their high-leverage arms. Drew Anderson and Enmanuel De Jesus might be the ones to watch. If they can rise to the occasion, Detroit could become a team that the rest of the American League needs to keep an eye on.
