In a move that’s sure to catch the eye of baseball fans, Detroit Tigers' left-hander Tarik Skubal is gearing up to pitch for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Skubal, a key figure in the Tigers' rotation, is set to make a brief but impactful appearance in the international tournament.
After his first spring training start against the Minnesota Twins, Skubal announced he’ll take the mound for Team USA during the round-robin stage of pool play. This means fans can expect to see him in action at Daikin Park in Houston between March 6-10. However, his stint will be short-lived as he won't participate in the quarterfinals, semifinals, or championship rounds, should Team USA advance that far.
Following his contribution to Team USA, Skubal will head back to TigerTown to continue preparations for the upcoming MLB season. With free agency looming in November 2026, this season could be pivotal for the 29-year-old pitcher.
Stay tuned for more updates as the World Baseball Classic unfolds and Skubal continues his journey with the Tigers.
