Tarik Skubal Returns to the Mound for Tigers' Spring Training
The Detroit Tigers are gearing up for another exciting day of spring training action as they face off against the Minnesota Twins at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in sunny Lakeland, Florida. This marks the Tigers' third game in the Grapefruit League, and all eyes are on the return of their ace, Tarik Skubal.
Skubal, the back-to-back American League Cy Young winner, last dazzled fans in Game 5 of the ALDS against Seattle. He delivered a masterful performance, striking out 13 batters over six innings with 99 pitches, leaving the game with the Tigers leading 2-1.
Now, he's back on the mound, not only to prepare for the upcoming MLB season but also to get ready for his role with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic in March. Mark your calendars, as Skubal is set to make the Opening Day start for the Tigers on March 26 in San Diego.
On the other side, the Twins are sending right-hander Mick Abel to the mound. Abel, a former top prospect, is known for his powerful arm. Last season, he made ten appearances, including eight starts between Philadelphia and Minnesota, finishing with a 6.23 ERA.
The Tigers' spring training schedule is packed with 29 exhibition games, all leading up to the 162-game regular season. The journey begins on March 26 against the San Diego Padres.
