Tarik Skubal keeps making the Detroit Tigers’ trade deadline call look a whole lot simpler.
Detroit beat the Kansas City Royals in the second game of their four-game weekend series, and the Tigers’ 50th win of the season came with Skubal doing what he’s been doing all year: taking over the game. The ace worked 7.2 innings, allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out 12.
That kind of outing only strengthens the case for the Tigers to stay the course. Skubal has already made it known that he does not want Detroit to sell at the upcoming trade deadline, and every dominant start gives that stance more weight. Not long ago, it looked possible the front office might go in a seller’s direction, but the Tigers have put themselves back in the mix in the American League Central Division.

Skubal’s latest performance also came with a season-high 12 strikeouts, another reminder of how overpowering he can be when he’s locked in.

Could Detroit still end up selling? Sure, that path still exists.
