The Seattle Mariners have always prided themselves on their pitching prowess, and this season looks no different. With a rotation that's set to dominate and a bullpen brimming with depth, Seattle is reinforcing its staff by adding another arm to the mix.
The Mariners recently signed 27-year-old right-hander Brendan White to a minor-league contract. White, who spent six years with the Detroit Tigers, brings some major league experience to the table. In 2023, he appeared in 33 games, posting a 5.09 ERA over 40 2/3 innings, with 44 strikeouts and 15 walks.
White's journey has been a rollercoaster. An injury in 2024 cut his season short, leading to a designation for assignment. He returned to the Tigers on a minor-league deal but struggled with a 7.24 ERA in Triple-A, eventually finishing the year with the independent Lancaster Stormers in the Atlantic League.
While White might not be a frontrunner for the Mariners' opening day roster, he's a project with potential. Seattle seems to view him as a valuable piece for the long haul, someone they can develop and call upon if the need arises during the season.
