Detroit Red Wings prospect Carter Bear isn’t looking to take the long way through Grand Rapids if he can help it. In a recent conversation with Marco D’Amico of RG Media, the 2025 first-rounder made it clear he believes he has the talent and drive to push for a spot on Detroit’s opening night roster.
That’s not exactly the easiest path in this organization. The Red Wings have a history of moving prospects along slowly, and even a player taken 13th overall can find himself waiting for full-time NHL minutes. But there’s a wrinkle this time: Detroit is bringing in a new front office leader before the regular season, and a shift in approach is expected to come with that move.
Bear, though, is coming in with momentum and confidence. The Red Wings signed him to his entry-level deal last summer, but he still hasn’t appeared in a game for the organization.
Instead, he spent last season back in a place he knows well with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips, and the production was loud. Over his last 109 games there, he scored 76 goals and piled up 159 points.
He also got a taste of the international stage, playing two games for Team Canada’s U20 squad at the 2025-26 IIHF World Junior Championships. Canada finished with a bronze medal.
The season ended with a title run, too. Bear scored seven goals and finished with 22 points in 18 playoff games as Everett captured the WHL Championship. The Silvertips then fell to the Kitchener Rangers in the Memorial Cup Final.
As training camp approaches, Bear isn’t dressing up his approach. When asked about his determination, he said, “ I try doing me and just work my ass off.
Everyone’s goal is to make the NHL. That’s my goal, I feel like I have a chance.
Everyone gets a shot, and it’s about being competitive and outworking guys. ”
