Red Wings May Have A Swedish Prospect Worth Watching Closely

Swedish prospect Noah Dower-Nilsson stands ready to make a mark in Grand Rapids with his sharp shooting and professional experience from the SHL.

The Grand Rapids Griffins may only have one Swedish prospect left on the roster, but Noah Dower-Nilsson is making that lone spot look pretty valuable.

The Red Wings’ Swedish pipeline has thinned from seven to three, and Dower-Nilsson is the only one still skating with Grand Rapids. He’s also the brother of former Red Wings prospect Liam, and he arrives with the kind of tools teams are always hunting for: speed, clean edges and a shot he’s not shy about using.

That last part is what really separates him.

Dower-Nilsson can play the puck-moving game, sure. But what makes him stand out is how willing he is to let it fly. The Red Wings and Griffins already have playmakers; a forward with the mechanics to shoot and the confidence to actually take the shot is a different kind of find.

His background in Sweden only adds to the appeal. Dower-Nilsson already logged time in the SHL with Frölunda HC, a sign that he earned real minutes against pro competition at a young age.

In the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 48 games for Frölunda HC and posted six goals and 10 assists for 16 points, along with 10 penalty minutes and a +7 rating. In the playoffs, he played six games, scoring twice and adding two assists for four points while finishing with two penalty minutes and an even rating.

That production doesn’t jump off the page the way some junior or college numbers might, but there’s a reason for that. Dower-Nilsson also dealt with a significant injury while in Sweden, something that likely slowed his progress and his impact there.

Now in Grand Rapids, he’s started to find his footing. Through eight games this season, he has three assists. His first AHL goal still hasn’t come, but it isn’t from a lack of trying.

The smaller North American ice should only help him. Dower-Nilsson has the awareness to create offense in tighter space, and that kind of game can really pop when the rink gets smaller and more of the offensive zone turns into a scoring chance. Not every player makes that leap, but for some, it unlocks everything.

What has stood out so far is how fluid he looks in motion and how naturally his creativity shows up. He’s also brought a shot with real bite.

Even without a goal yet, he’s firing like a player who expects the next one to go in. That confidence is part of the package.

For now, Griffins fans get to watch that package develop. And in the meantime, Dower-Nilsson looks like a prospect worth paying attention to.

Red Wings Cruise In Vancouver As A Late Goalie Twist Steals Focus

Lucas Raymond helped set the tone early in Rogers Arena, scoring twice as the Red Wings jumped out to a fast start and rolled past the Canucks 5-2. Detroit looked in control for most of the night, getting the kind of balanced road result that can settle a team in a long trip and give its top players a chance to steer the pace from the opening shift on.

The more unusual part of the evening came in net, where John Gibson exited after two periods because of an eye issue. Michal Postava then stepped in for the third period and made his NHL debut, turning a comfortable win into a night that will be remembered for more than the scoreline as Detroit waits to see how the goalie situation settles after the trip. Red Wings Trade Rumor Just Put Dylan Larkin Fans On Edge

The rumor mill around Dylan Larkin picked up again after reports surfaced that the Red Wings have been scouting the Canadiens, a reminder that even one of the franchises most important players can become part of the leagues endless trade chatter. For Detroit, any whisper involving its captain is bound to grab attention, especially when it comes with another layer of draft-pick and prospect intrigue on the other side of the conversation.

Montreal, according to the reporting, could be positioned to shape any potential talks around a familiar name to Michigan hockey fans, which only adds to the speculation around where this is headed. For now, it remains just that, but the fact that the Red Wings are looking closely at the Canadiens is enough to keep Larkin-watch firmly on the front burner until the picture becomes clearer. Red Wings Finally Get A Road Win But One New Concern Looms

The Red Wings finally came home from Vancouver with a road win, and it was built early. Lucas Raymond scored twice in the first period to give Detroit a quick cushion, William Wallinder picked up his second career goal, and the 5-2 result gave the club a much-needed boost away from home.

John Gibsons night ended before it should have, though, and that changes the feel of an otherwise encouraging win. Michal Postava was pressed into duty after being called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins, and the situation was made trickier by the fact that Daniil Tarasov was already unavailable, leaving Detroit to sort through another goaltending question heading into the next stretch.
