Red Wings Hit Another Dylan Larkin Trade Roadblock

Dylan Larkin's steadfast commitment to his trade list is putting pressure on the Detroit Red Wings to secure a viable deal under restrictive conditions.

The Detroit Red Wings are still trying to work through the Dylan Larkin situation, but the latest ask from the team was met with the same answer as before: no.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the organization went back to Larkin and his agent and asked him to widen his trade list again. Interim GM Shawn Horcoff has been in touch with Larkin’s agents, Pat Brisson and Matt Williams, in recent days, telling them, “I’ve tried everything with the 10 teams on your list, but I haven’t been able to find a trade that makes sense for us, the Detroit Red Wings. Please, would it be possible to add some other teams to the list?”

The answer, LeBrun reported, was immediate.

“According to my sources, Pat Brisson’s response to the Red Wings-again, in the last few days-was “no.” “We’ve already given you ten teams. You’re capable of making a trade with those ten teams.”

Larkin’s camp appears to be holding firm, and that stance could have ripple effects for the teams hoping to get involved. The Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabers are both reportedly interested, but if they’re not on Larkin’s list, they may have to sit tight.

Larkin has already moved from a trade list of three teams to six, and then to 10. Elliotte Friedman said the list could shift a little, but the expectation is that it won’t go beyond 10. LeBrun’s reporting points to a clear message from Larkin’s side: he’s already done enough to accommodate Detroit.

That also helps explain why Montreal and Buffalo may be stuck on the outside looking in. Sources say the Canadiens have serious interest in Larkin and are ready to make a strong pitch. The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta reported that Habs GM Kent Hughes last checked in with Horcoff heading into this past weekend.

Horcoff’s latest outreach suggests Detroit may have a deal in mind that involves a team not currently on Larkin’s list. If that’s the case, all he can do is ask. Larkin’s refusal to expand the list further makes it clear how much he wants to avoid those markets.

There’s also the Minnesota Wild angle. According to the report, Minnesota has already put an offer on the table that Horcoff doesn’t like.

Detroit is still trying to see if it can do better, but Horcoff believes a stronger package is out there. Larkin’s unwillingness to keep opening the door may leave the Red Wings with less leverage than they want.

Division Rival Just Took Detroits Side In The Dylan Larkin Drama

Dylan Larkins trade request has already pushed the Red Wings into an uncomfortable stretch, and the fallout has gone well beyond the ice. After he refused to play and was suspended without pay, Detroit answered with a win and a clear message from inside the room: the group is trying to move forward without letting the situation linger over every shift and every meeting.

What makes the story even more interesting is that a division rival has now weighed in from a different angle. Tampa Bay forward Brandon Hagel pointed to a similar trade-request situation involving teammate Nikita Kucherov, drawing a distinction that reflects how unusual Larkins case has become around the league. For Detroit, it is one more reminder that this drama is being watched closely, and not just by the people wearing red and white. [Read more 🡒]

Dylan Larkin Trade Talks Just Hit A Massive Red Wings Roadblock

The Dylan Larkin chatter took a sharp turn after NHL insider Chris Johnston reported that Buffalo put a significant trade offer on the table, only for Detroit to hit a wall because Larkin would not waive his no-trade clause for the Sabres. It is the kind of detail that instantly changes the conversation around a player who remains central to the Red Wings, especially when a deal of that magnitude is involved.

Larkins contract protection gives him control over where he can and cannot be moved, and Buffalo is not on the list of teams he can currently approve. Montreal has also been linked to the situation, but the bigger question now is whether his approved list changes soon, which would reopen a door that is shut for the moment. [Read more 🡒]

Red Wings Suddenly Have A Goalie Problem They Feared Again

The Red Wings were already trying to settle into a rhythm in net when John Gibson was forced out of the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He left with a lower-body injury and did not return, leaving Detroit to turn to Daniil Tarasov in relief as the night took a sudden turn.

For a team that has spent plenty of time worrying about goaltending stability, the timing is the part that stings most. The severity of Gibsons injury and how long he might be unavailable are still unknown, which leaves Detroit waiting on a situation it had hoped to avoid again. [Read more 🡒]
