Michal Postava Stuns Fans With Stellar Goalie Performance for Red Wings Future

As Michal Postava shines both abroad and in Grand Rapids, his unique style and fierce competition position him as a promising candidate for the Red Wings' goaltending future.

As Michal Postava backstopped HC Kometo Brno to a Czech Extraliga title last spring, he drew comparisons to the legendary Dominik Hasek for his knack of getting into shooters' heads. Now, as a prospect for the Detroit Red Wings, Postava continues to impress in his rookie AHL season with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Griffins coach Dan Watson has witnessed firsthand how Postava can become a mental hurdle for opponents. “If you ask our guys, he’s the toughest goalie to score on in practice,” Watson noted.

“Postava has a knack for pulling off unexpected saves. Even when it seems there’s a wide-open net, he’s diving across with a glove or leg, making you wonder how he did it.

It’s his competitive nature and athleticism that set him apart.”

Despite a brief recall of Sebastian Cossa to the Red Wings due to John Gibson's injury, Postava remains a significant part of Detroit’s goaltending future. Alongside Cossa and Trey Augustine, Postava is a name to watch.

Returning to action for the Griffins after nearly two months sidelined by injury, Postava has been nothing short of stellar. In 18 games, he boasts a 1.82 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage, with a 12-4 record and two shutouts. His shootout performance is flawless, stopping all three shots faced, and in 13 of his 18 games, he’s allowed two or fewer goals.

“He gives us a chance to win every game,” Watson praised. “Postava is super athletic, really competitive, and aggressive in the net.

His active style is a throwback, moving around the crease in a way that’s rare today. Watching him play is a treat, and with his talent, the future looks bright.”
