Lucas Raymond Sends Clear Message Before Playoff Push

Lucas Raymond aims to boost his performance by taking strategic shots, crucial for the Red Wings' playoff push.

The Detroit Red Wings are approaching a pivotal stretch in their season, with the next 11 games set to determine their postseason fate. Currently sitting three points shy of the Eastern Conference's final Wild Card spot, the team is feeling the sting of recent losses to the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. To reignite their playoff hopes, the Red Wings need their top players firing on all cylinders.

Lucas Raymond, a key contributor, has shown he can elevate his game during crucial moments, as he did in 2024 with several clutch performances. However, his recent stats-two goals and two assists in the last nine games-suggest he’s not at his peak. In three of his last four outings, Raymond has managed just one shot on goal per game.

Raymond's early-season injury, a shoulder hit from Toronto Maple Leafs' Chris Tanev, seems to be behind him. "I feel good," Raymond stated, acknowledging the physical toll of the season but affirming his readiness to perform.

Head coach Todd McLellan has emphasized the need for Raymond to increase his shot output, especially in high-danger scoring areas. Raymond himself understands the importance of capitalizing on scoring opportunities. "I like my shot, and I want to shoot when I get into spots where I feel like I can score," he noted.

McLellan echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of quality over quantity when it comes to shooting. "He’s aware of it, and he’s going to keep working," McLellan said, emphasizing the need for Raymond to find the right positions to unleash his shot effectively.

As the Red Wings enter this critical phase of the season, they need Raymond to step up and make his presence felt on the scoresheet. The push for playoff hockey at Little Caesars Arena is on, and Raymond's performance could be the difference-maker.
