Henrik Zetterbergs Jersey Retirement Turned Into An Awkward Scene

Despite disruptions from rival fans, Henrik Zetterberg's jersey retirement ceremony proceeded with apologies and reflections on respect in Swedish hockey.

Henrik Zetterberg’s jersey retirement at Timra was meant to be a celebration, but the night was hijacked for stretches by visiting Björklöven supporters who booed and shouted during the ceremony.

Zetterberg, the former Detroit Red Wings captain, had his No. 20 lifted to the arena rafters before Saturday’s game against Björklöven. Instead of a clean tribute, the moment was punctuated by catcalls and singing from the road fans while recorded messages played and again when Zetterberg addressed the crowd.

The reaction drew immediate pushback from Björklöven’s own side. Assistant coach Daniel Rahimi called the scene disappointing in comments to Swedish website Expressen.

“I think it’s really sad, I’ll be honest,” Björklöven assistant coach Daniel Rahimi told Swedish website Expressen. “In Swedish hockey, we should show respect for those who have done great things.

“I hope that the few who started that go to bed and regret it.”

The backlash didn’t stop there. A corporate sponsor of Björklöven’s supporters club, the Green Devils, ended its backing of the group, saying the behavior clashed with its core values. Björklöven also issued an apology to Zetterberg and his family.

“During the ceremony, some of our supporters acted disrespectfully towards Henrik Zetterberg and the event,’ the apology read. “It is behavior that Björklöven distances itself from.

“Björklöven regrets what happened.”

There was also a mistake on the banner raised in Zetterberg’s honor. It failed to include the 2004-05 season in his Timra career, even though he played for the club that year during the NHL lockout.

“There has been a mistake from the supplier,” Adam Sälg, communications manager for Timra, explained to Expressen. “These are things that happen.

Despite the interruptions, Zetterberg kept the focus on the moment itself.

“It’s a fantastic feeling,” Zetterberg told Sweden’s TV4. “It’s not my favorite element to speak in front of an arena. But it was a wonderful experience.

“Timra has had a big place in my heart. It’s special to share this feeling with everyone here.”

Red Wings Rally Showed Fight But Exposed A Bigger Problem

The Red Wings left Climate Pledge Arena with a point and plenty to like about their third-period push, even if the end result still felt like one that slipped away. Down by three heading into the final period, Detroit battled back enough to force overtime and eventually a shootout, extending its run to five straight games with at least one point and moving to 3-3-3 on the season.

The comeback was fueled by a pair of key moments that should matter to the locker room, including Lucas Raymond finally getting on the board and Alex DeBrincat reaching a major career milestone while helping drag the game back to level. Still, the bigger concern for Detroit is how often it is having to chase from behind in the first place, because the rally was impressive but it also underscored how much work remains before these points start feeling routine instead of salvaged. Dylan Larkin Trade Talks Just Got More Real For Red Wings Fans

Dylan Larkins name has stayed in the middle of the Red Wings conversation, but the latest reporting suggests the possibilities around him may be widening. With trade discussions reportedly gaining momentum and some insiders pointing to a deal in the near future, the situation has moved from background noise to something Detroit fans have to watch closely as the process develops.

One notable wrinkle is the scope of the list Larkin has reportedly expanded, which hints at a much broader market than a simple two-team discussion. It also leaves out Montreal, a detail sure to register with anyone following the rumor mill, especially with interest around the Canadiens having lingered for some time. For the Red Wings, the next stretch could determine whether this remains speculation or turns into a major roster shakeup. [Read more 🡒]

Red Wings Fans Get Another Twist In The Dylan Larkin Trade Saga

Dylan Larkins situation keeps drifting further from simple contract noise and closer to one of the more unusual trade watch items around the NHL. The Red Wings captain is still in Detroit for now, still playing to protect his trade value, but his camp has reportedly widened the field of possible landing spots as he looks for a move away from the club.

Even with a no-trade clause giving him control over where he would go, nothing has been finalized and the waiting game continues. For Red Wings fans, it adds another layer to a storyline already full of tension, especially with outside interest growing while Larkin remains under contract and part of the roster. [Read more 🡒]
