Tomas Nosek’s hockey journey is coming full circle.
The former Detroit Red Wings forward is headed back to Czechia to play for HC Dynamo Pardubice of the Czech Extraliga, the club where his pro career first took shape. Pardubice, like Detroit, is known as Hockeytown, and Nosek sounded ready to embrace the move home after 12 seasons in North America and 514 NHL games.
“Until the last moment, I expected to be in America,” Nosek said on the Pardubice YouTube channel.
Nosek spent the last two seasons with the Florida Panthers and won a Stanley Cup in 2024-25. He also has a long list of team accomplishments behind him, including Eastern Conference and Western Conference playoff titles with Florida and Vegas, plus a Presidents’ Trophy with the Boston Bruins in 2022-23. In the AHL, he added a Calder Cup with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2016-17.
Back where it started, the 33-year-old center/left-winger reflected on how much has changed since he last wore a Pardubice sweater.
“It’s almost unreal,” Nosek said. “A lot has happened in that time.
I’ve had two children. I’m now a father.
“Back then I was young and inexperienced. Now it’s something else. Maybe more experienced and wiser.
“I hope I haven’t changed as such. Maybe I’m coming back as the same boy… Or man.”
Nosek’s path to this point began in Pardubice’s youth ranks before he played three seasons with the senior club from 2011-14. He then signed with the Red Wings in the summer of 2014 after going undrafted and spent his first season in North America with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.
His NHL debut came with Detroit in 2015-16, when he played his first 17 NHL games and scored his first NHL goal. The Red Wings later lost him to the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.
Pardubice, the reigning Czech Extraliga champions, will open training camp on August 17. Nosek still has some logistics to handle before the move is complete.
“I still have to fly to America and pack because we have nothing at home,” Nosek said. “We are returning for the summer with only one suitcase.
“I don’t even have winter clothes here.”
For now, the next stop in Nosek’s career is the same city where it all began.
