Dylan Larkin Trade Chatter Just Took A Strange New Turn

Despite mixed opinions, Canadiens fans are rallying in an effort to sway Dylan Larkin, hoping their enthusiasm could influence his trade decision.

Montreal Canadiens fans have been handed a Saturday-night experiment, and not everyone is on board with the idea. Ahead of the Red Wings’ visit to face the Canadiens, one fan floated a plan on X to try to win over Dylan Larkin - or at least push the Detroit center toward reconsidering his reported stance on a move to Montreal.

The post, from Habs Chronicle, drew more than 38,000 views in about a day and called on supporters to make themselves heard every time Larkin had the puck. “Regardless of whether any of the Larkin and Habs rumours or speculation is true, tomorrow Habs fans should be cheering at the top of their lungs every time he touches the puck,” they write. “Convince him to come here by any way necessary.”

That idea did not exactly land cleanly with the fan base.

Plenty of replies pushed back, with several users saying Larkin has already turned down the chance to play in Montreal. One commenter wondered if things had gotten to the point where the team was begging for a player who wants no part of it.

Another said he would probably ask out again the way he did in Detroit, especially with a reported desire to stay in the U.S. Someone else argued the Canadiens should never be anyone’s second choice, while another fan called it a new low and questioned why Larkin was being treated like Sidney Crosby.

There was skepticism about Larkin’s fit too. One account said he might help bring in American talent, but didn’t sound convinced beyond that.

Still, not everyone dismissed the idea. One fan said they would be at the game and planned to start a “we want Larkin” chant on their own. Another said hearing “Trade us Larkin” would be fun.

The bigger question is whether any of this would actually move Larkin at all. There’s always the possibility that a player sees a new situation differently once he’s in it, but the chatter in Montreal may not be enough to change his mind. The reporting suggests Larkin has his eye on only a few teams, and the Canadiens are not among them right now.

For now, the situation leaves Montreal fans split between excitement and stubborn pride. With the rumours still unconfirmed, the real test Saturday may not be Larkin’s reaction - it may be what kind of noise the Bell Centre decides to make.

Red Wings Standings Chase Just Got Tougher In The Atlantic

The Atlantic race is getting a little tighter for Detroit to navigate, with Ottawa set to add some important bodies back into its lineup after a stretch of injury absences. Defensemen Jake Sanderson and Artem Zub are expected back within the next few days, and forward Andr Burakovsky is also nearing a return from an upper-body injury, giving the Senators a chance to steady themselves at a time when every point matters in the division.

Detroit, meanwhile, made a pair of its own roster moves by activating forwards Chase Stillman and Carter Bear from the injured list and sending both to Grand Rapids. For the Red Wings, those transactions are more about keeping the pipeline moving than altering the NHL picture right away, but they underscore how quickly the standings chase can shift when rivals start getting healthier and depth pieces are being sorted out on both sides. Red Wings May Already Have Another Goalie Worth Watching

Michal Postava is off to a strong start in Grand Rapids, and the early returns have already given the Red Wings organization something else to monitor in net. He stopped 36 shots in a 2-1 win over the Manitoba Moose, helping the Griffins keep rolling at home and improve to 2-0-1-0 on the season.

For a team always watching its goaltending pipeline, Postavas first two games have stood out even more because of how calm he has looked. The Griffins have won their last four home openers, and with Postava posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage so far, there is at least a little more reason to pay attention every time he gets the crease. Red Wings Suddenly Get A Tougher Canadiens Matchup Tonight

The Canadiens are getting a significant boost on the blue line tonight, and it comes at a time when theyve already been trying to sharpen the edges of their roster. Kaiden Guhle is set to make his season debut after missing the first four games following offseason surgery on his adductor muscle, and Montreal plans to slot him next to Mike Matheson against the Red Wings.

To make room for Guhles return, Montreal recently moved Jayden Struble out of the picture in a trade with Nashville for a 2027 second-round pick. For Detroit, it means the matchup suddenly looks a little stiffer on a night when the Canadiens can roll out a more complete defense and lean on a player theyve been waiting to get back. [Read more 🡒]
