Pistons' Sasser Stuns With Highest Scoring Game Since New Years Day

Marcus Sasser shines as the Pistons break their slump with a trio of victories, showcasing newfound resilience and pivotal player contributions.

Marcus Sasser seized his moment in the spotlight, delivering his best scoring performance since the start of the year. The Pistons guard dropped 16 points in a decisive 126-110 victory over Memphis on Friday.

With Ausar Thompson sidelined due to an ankle sprain, Sasser has stepped up into the starting role.

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff praised Sasser’s readiness and resilience: “This isn’t new or surprising.

It’s about opportunity,” he said. “Sass is always ready when called upon.

He’s a true NBA player. His defensive tenacity, ball-handling skills, and shooting ability make him a valuable asset.

He spaces the floor and creates plays. As he gets more exposure, his opportunities will grow, and we’re committed to giving him those chances.”

Sasser’s future with the Pistons looks promising. The team secured a club option on his contract for the 2026/27 season, ensuring he’s signed through next year.

Turning to the team’s recent form, the Pistons have bounced back with three consecutive wins following a tough four-game skid. They’ve taken down the Nets and an injury-hit Sixers squad this week.

“We hit a rough patch, but coach reminded us to stick together,” said reserve wing Ron Holland. “Every team faces losing streaks in the NBA.

We’ve had success this season, and we’re back on track now.”

Holland’s shooting from deep has been off, hitting just 15.8 percent of his threes this month. Yet, he remains a potent offensive force, averaging 14.3 points over the last three games.

Bickerstaff highlighted Holland’s work ethic and impact: “Ron’s dedication is unmatched. His energy lifts us when we need it most, and he’s learning to maximize his strengths on the court.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Huerter, acquired at the trade deadline, is settling into his role, averaging 21 minutes over the last six games. He’s been consistent, scoring in double digits in his last two appearances with 12 points against the Sixers and 11 against the Grizzlies. As he approaches free agency, Huerter’s contributions will be crucial for the Pistons’ continued success.
