The Detroit Pistons have enjoyed a relatively healthy season, a key factor in their strong position atop the Eastern Conference. However, Isaiah Stewart is currently dealing with a nagging calf injury that's been a growing concern.
Pistons' head coach J.B. Bickerstaff addressed Stewart's condition, noting the persistence of the issue.
"It’s something he’s been dealing with. It just had been getting worse.
He gutted it out last game and I think you could see he was favoring it late … it’s something we’re going to take time with," Bickerstaff shared.
The timeline for Stewart's return remains uncertain, but the Pistons are hopeful it won’t be a prolonged absence. In the meantime, the team will need to tap into their depth, potentially giving Jalen Duren more minutes on the floor.
Stewart has been a cornerstone of toughness for the Pistons, known for his protective presence on the court. He recently discussed his competitive mindset on The Young Man and The Three Podcast.
“I would just say I’m very competitive and I view the court as like us going to war,” Stewart explained. “I know the other team is trying to take our heads off.
So, it’s just like a flip, like I got something to defend. I just got pride.
I’m not going to lay down and let you have an easy game."
Stewart's reputation as a fierce competitor is well-earned. “It just goes to show that they don’t know me, and that’s just them judging me off of a moment.
I’ve had so many different teammates that I’ve competed against that didn’t like me, then they came to Detroit, it’s just like dang, Stu is different. It’s great to have him as a teammate as a brother,” he added.
As the Pistons navigate this challenge, Stewart's grit and determination continue to inspire both teammates and fans alike.
