The Carolina Panthers are walking into Sunday Night Football with a little less margin for error after the NFL handed down fines to three of their players ahead of the Oct. 4 matchup with the Detroit Lions.
Detroit comes in at 2-1 and looking to keep building its case as a playoff team, while Carolina sits at 1-2 and trying to send a message that it belongs. That sets the stage for a game with plenty on the line, and the Panthers now have to deal with some league discipline tied to last week’s 21-18 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
On Saturday, the NFL’s latest round of punishments included fines for A.J. Dillon, Lee Hunter and Thomas Incoom.
Dillon was docked $6,750 for a facemask penalty that resulted in unnecessary roughness in the fourth quarter at 12:32. Hunter was fined $10,174 for unsportsmanlike conduct after taunting in the third quarter at 12:41.
Incoom received a $9,222 fine for unnecessary roughness involving use of the helmet in the third quarter at 15:00.
“The rules are intended to protect the players from unnecessary risk,” the NFL states on its official website, “promote player safety and emphasize sportsmanship and respect of teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and fans.”
The good news for Carolina is that none of the three was suspended, which matters with the Lions up next and the Panthers needing as much available firepower as they can get. After Detroit, Carolina heads into its early bye week.

Lions Suddenly Face A Sam LaPorta Question They Couldn't Settle
The Lions and Sam LaPorta have hit pause on contract-extension talks after several weeks of negotiations failed to produce a deal, a familiar sort of detour for a franchise that has not shied away from working on its own timeline. LaPortas side decided to step back for now so the tight end can stay focused on the season, leaving open the possibility that the conversation picks up again once the games are over.
For Detroit, the situation turns one of its most important young pieces into an offseason question again, even if the door is not closed. The team has a history of handling contracts during the season, and it would not be a surprise if it tries again to keep LaPorta in place long term, especially with the chance that any agreement could land him among the leagues highest-paid tight ends. Isaac TeSlaa Has A Real Chance To Build On Last Week
Isaac TeSlaa finally gave the Lions a glimpse of what he can add to the passing game last week, finishing with four catches for 66 yards against the Jets. For a second-year receiver still trying to carve out a steadier role, it was the kind of outing that can change how a coaching staff looks at the depth chart from one week to the next.
The next opportunity looks even more inviting against Carolina, which has already lost two starting cornerbacks to injured reserve. With Detroit likely looking to keep feeding TeSlaa after his uptick in involvement, betting analyst Drew Ellis is expecting him to top his receiving total from last week, a sign that this might be more than a one-game spike for a young player trying to force his way into the offense. Lions Depth Chart Brings New Concern Before Prime-Time Test In Carolina
The Lions have put out their Week 4 depth chart before Sunday nights trip to Carolina, and it offers the clearest snapshot yet of how the roster is settling in for a prime-time road test. Along with the usual starter-by-starter pecking order, the release folds in injury updates and the latest roster moves, giving a fuller picture of who is available as Detroit tries to keep its early-season momentum intact.
What stands out this week is how much the chart reflects the churn behind the scenes, with players on injured reserve and practice-squad elevations shaping the depth at multiple spots. For a team heading into a nationally televised game, those details matter because they can hint at where the Lions feel comfortable and where the margin is thinner than it looked a week ago.
