Detroit’s win over Minnesota came with a long, uneasy pause in the fourth quarter, when linebacker Jack Campbell went down and stayed down after a tackle that left Ford Field hushed.
The Lions later announced that Campbell was being transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury. He was strapped to a backboard and carted off after about 10 minutes on the turf.
The play happened with 14:48 left in the fourth quarter and Detroit ahead 12-7. Campbell and rookie linebacker Jimmy Rolder both went to the ground after the tackle, though Rolder eventually got up and left under his own power with a trainer. Campbell, meanwhile, remained motionless as medical personnel worked to prepare him for the stretcher.
His head appeared to strike Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson’s left hip, and the All-Pro linebacker fell hard to the field.
Players and staff from both teams took a knee as the crowd went silent. After the fourth-down stop, the Lions defense was seen on the sideline standing in prayer.
The injury came during a tense stretch in a 19-15 Lions victory that handed Minnesota its first loss. On the same defensive drive, the Vikings converted a touchdown and 2-point try to take a 15-12 lead with 8:44 remaining, and the Lions also lost starting cornerback DJ Reed to a hip injury on that possession.
Detroit had already taken hits earlier in the game. Starting safety Brian Branch and defensive end DJ Wonnum both left in the second quarter after a scary collision, with both entering concussion protocol. Reed then exited on the next defensive drive.
Campbell’s absence would leave Detroit thinner at linebacker, where the depth chart includes veterans Trevor Nowaske and Malcolm Rodriguez, along with Rolder, a fourth-round rookie out of Michigan. Derrick Barnes is the team’s other starting linebacker.
Campbell has been a major piece for the Lions this season, leading the team with 54 tackles in their 4-2 start. The No. 18 overall pick in 2023 out of Iowa, he was a 2025 first-team All-Pro selection and signed a four-year, $81 million contract in May with $51.4 million guaranteed, keeping him in Detroit through the 2030 season.

Lions Face Early Trouble In A Game That Could Shake Up NFC North
Week 8 in the NFC North came with a little extra weight for Detroit, and the first quarter against Minnesota already had the feel of a game that could matter long after Sunday. The Vikings got the opening kickoff and immediately had a chance to set the tone, while the Lions answered with some early movement of their own, including a third-down conversion from Amon-Ra St. Brown before the offense ran into a choppy stretch.
The opening frame never settled in for either side, with penalties and missed field goals helping turn what should have been a clean division showdown into a stop-start grind. Detroit needed a steady hand to keep pace in a game with first-place implications, but the early rhythm kept getting interrupted, leaving plenty of tension on the field and even more riding on how the rest of the afternoon would unfold. Lions Fans Are Already Buzzing About Ford Fields New Food Stand
Ford Fields latest concession addition arrived with a distinctly Detroit flavor on Oct. 25, when Moms Spaghetti made its debut at the Lions game. Inspired by Eminems Lose Yourself, the restaurants food stand brought spaghetti and meatballs, along with the Sghetti sandwich, into the stadium mix through a partnership with Levy, Ford Fields food and beverage partner.
The stand is set to travel with the Lions again for the game in Munich, Germany, giving the team another local touchpoint far from home. It also comes with a community-minded angle, since the volunteer staff working the stand benefits various organizations, which fits neatly with the kind of neighborhood feel the Lions have tried to build around their home games. Jared Goffs Pregame Ford Field Moment Had Lions Fans Feeling It
Before the Lions kicked off against the Vikings on Nov. 1 at Ford Field, Jared Goff got a sideline moment that had little to do with coverage checks and everything to do with family. The quarterback was seen on the field with his wife, Christen Harper Goff, and their daughter, Romy, in a pregame scene that the NFL later captured in a video on Instagram.
The clip showed Goff holding his daughter and spending time with his wife near the sideline, a small but striking reminder of how much these moments resonate beyond the scoreboard. It was the kind of personal snapshot that tends to travel fast with fans, especially when it comes just before a divisional game at home. [Read more 🡒]
