Lions Waiting On Full Jack Campbell Picture After Scary Injury

Coach Dan Campbell addresses the positive outlook and emotional challenges as the Lions rally around linebacker Jack Campbell after his hospitalizing injury.

The Detroit Lions got a positive update on Jack Campbell Monday, even if there still wasn’t much in the way of hard details.

Before Dan Campbell stepped to the podium for his afternoon press conference, the team issued a statement saying the linebacker was still in a local hospital after being strapped to a backboard following a fourth-quarter hit. The team said, “Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital. Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time.“

That was the backdrop for Campbell’s remarks, and the message from the coach was clear: the early signs are encouraging, and the family wants privacy while the recovery process continues.

“It’s positive,” Campbell said. “So your prayers are working.

Please continue to do that. We’ll leave it at that.

So, just continue to pray for him, but it is positive news on Jack.”

Campbell also said he was able to see Jack Campbell at the hospital Sunday night, along with members of the linebacker’s family. The mood, he said, was upbeat.

“I got to go see him last night, and it was good, it was positive,” Campbell said. “Got to see his parents, talked to his wife, and everybody’s in good spirits.

‘It’s about the recovery, and it’s a small setback.’ That’s the family.

They’re very positive. So that’s good in that regard.”

He added that plenty of people from the team made their way over, though not everybody got the chance to visit because Campbell was going through tests.

On the football side, the Lions now have to move forward without Jack Campbell for the time being, and Dan Campbell pointed to the depth already in the room. At the same time, rookie Jimmy Rolder is done for the year with a hamstring injury that could require surgery.

“Luckily, we have some depth in there,” Campbell said. “With (Malcolm) Rodrigo and (Trevor) Nowaske and (Derrick) Barnes.

Those three guys. And Amen’s (Ogbongbemiga) been up for us, which is good.

And then we’ve got (Joe) Bachie ready to roll.”

He also left the door open for outside help.

“We may need a little bit of help. We’re looking at everything.

We’ll adjust as we go,” Campbell said. “(Lions GM) Brad (Holmes) and I will get together here this afternoon, tomorrow, and figure some of this out.”

The coach said the team has already talked about how to handle the emotional side of the situation while still preparing for the next game. The challenge, he said, is acknowledging what happened without letting it derail the work ahead.

“I think we acknowledge it. It’s not going away.

That is what it is, and it’s important. He’s important to us, and that he’s okay is important,” Campbell said.

“So we acknowledge that, we talk about it, and at the same time, we get ready for this next opponent. I think you kinda do a little bit of both, honestly.”

Dan Campbell also took time to talk about what Jack Campbell means to the Lions beyond the field. His description was as direct as it gets.

“I don’t think I can really even put it into words. It’s one of the reasons why-look, you get voted captain.

That says a ton, especially with this group of guys that has been assembled. He earned every bit of that.

He’s a guy that-he’s trustworthy, he’s dependable. He’d give you the shirt off his back.

He’s just all heart, man, all effort. And just an unbelievable person, he’s just an unbelievable person.

Down to earth, very genuine, and he just-there’s not a man on this team that doesn’t respect Jack Campbell, care about him.”

He closed by praising Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell for the way he responded after the injury.

“The other thing I want to bring up-man, you go through these games in this league and the competition of it and everything you go through to try and win, and you’re going against an opponent like we were with the Vikings-just, Kevin O’Connell, man, he’s a class act,” Campbell said. “Just looking out for him, checking in on Jack.

I know those guys said a prayer for Jack, and that just says a lot about the humanity of it. Man, we are highly competitive; this league is highly competitive, but it is a brotherhood.

It just puts things into perspective, and these are human beings that have families, real lives. So it’s just a classy deal, man.”

Justin Jeffersons Ford Field Meltdown Has Lions Fans Debating The Line

Justin Jeffersons afternoon at Ford Field was already a frustrating one by the time the video started making the rounds. The Vikings star was held to five catches for 33 yards and a touchdown in Minnesotas loss to Detroit, a result that not only snapped the Vikings unbeaten run but also left one of the leagues most competitive receivers visibly worked up along the sideline.

The clip showing Jefferson exchanging words with a fan near the Vikings bench quickly added another layer to the games aftermath, and it is the kind of moment that tends to linger long after the final whistle. Kevin OConnell addressed Jeffersons frustration afterward and framed it through the lens of competitiveness, which only sharpened the conversation around how far emotions can run in a rivalry game when the stakes are high. Lions Get An Early Week 9 Test Miami Could Complicate

The Lions are headed into Week 9 as a solid favorite, but the trip to Miami comes with a little more uncertainty than the point spread suggests. The Dolphins have spent the offseason remaking the organization under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley, and the early stages of that rebuild have brought a roster that looks very different from the one Detroit has seen in recent years.

Miami has been leaning into youth, cutting veterans and bringing in a wave of rookies, which has made the first part of the season uneven. The results have mostly been rough, but the Dolphins have shown some signs of life lately, including a close loss to the New England Patriots, and that kind of progress can make an early November test a little trickier than expected for a Lions team trying to keep its footing. Lions Suddenly Have A Linebacker Problem Heading Into Dolphins Week

Dan Campbells postgame injury rundown after the Week 8 loss to the Vikings left the Lions with more than just a bad taste from the result. Detroit is heading into Dolphins week with a thinner defensive picture than it would like, and the linebacker room took a particularly hard hit when rookie Jimmy Rolder went down with a hamstring injury.

The concern around Rolder is serious enough to cloud the rest of his first season, while the Lions are also sorting through a longer list of banged-up players who are not expected back at practice anytime soon. D.J. Wonnum, Brian Branch, Cade Mays, D.J. Reed and Jacob Saylors are all dealing with injuries of their own, leaving Campbell and his staff with plenty to monitor before Miami comes to town.
