Lions Training Camp Just Put Familiar Names On Notice

As the Lions kick off their 2026 training camp, all eyes are on the competitive battle for roster spots and emerging talents among the 90 players.

Training camp is here, and the Detroit Lions are bringing a full 90-man group into the summer fight for jobs.

That means one thing for plenty of players: every rep matters. Some are trying to earn a spot on the 2026 53-man roster.

Others are aiming to stick around on the 16-man practice squad. A few are simply working their way back from injury.

At quarterback, the Lions list Jared Goff, Teddy Bridgewater and Luke Altmeyer.

The backfield includes Jahmyr Gibbs, Isiah Pacheco, Sione Vaki, Jacob Saylors, Jabari Small and Kye Robichaux.

Detroit’s receiver room is loaded with familiar names and plenty of competition. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa headline the group, with Greg Dortch, Tom Kennedy, Dominic Lovett, Cedrick Wilson Jr., Tarik Black, Malik Cunningham, Lucky Jackson, Lawrence Keys, Tay Martin and Kendrick Law, who is listed as Reserve/Injured, also on the roster.

At tight end, the Lions have Sam LaPorta, Brock Wright, Tyler Conklin, Jackson Meeks, Thomas Gordon, Miles Kitselman and Zach Horton.

The offensive line group is a long one, featuring Penei Sewell, Blake Miller, Cade Mays, Tate Ratledge, Christian Mahogany, Larry Borom, Ben Bartch, Juice Scruggs, Miles Frazier, Giovanni Manu, Devin Cochran, Seth McLaughlin, Michael Niese, Melvin Priestly and Colby Sorsdal.

Up front on defense, Detroit has Alim McNeill, Jay Tufele, Tyleik Williams, Levi Onwuzurike, Skyler Gill-Howard, Mekhi Wingo, Tyler Lacy, Myles Adams, Chris Smith and Aidan Keanaaina.

The edge group is led by Aidan Hutchinson, D.J. Wonnum, Derrick Moore, Payton Turner and Ahmed Hassanein, with Tyre West, Anthony Lucas and Eric O’Neill also in the mix.

Linebacker depth includes Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes, Malcolm Rodriguez, Damone Clark, Jimmy Rolder, Trevor Nowaske, Joe Bachie and Erick Hunter.

In the secondary, the cornerback group is D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin, Roger McCreary, Ennis Rakestraw, Keith Abney II, Khalil Dorsey, Nick Whiteside, Aamaris Brown and De'Shawn Rucker. The safety room features Kerby Joseph, Brian Branch, Chuck Clark, Christian Izien, Avonte Maddox, Thomas Harper, Loren Strickland and Dan Jackson.

With camp starting this week, the roster is set for a summer of competition across the board. Players listed above are all in the mix to rehab, prove themselves or carve out a place on the Lions’ 2026 roster.

Penei Sewell Just Added A New Twist To Lions Camp Buzz

Penei Sewells offseason has carried a little more weight than most. The Lions tackle has been getting ready to flip back to the left side, and he said the transition has been less uncomfortable than he expected, a useful sign for a team that is always watching how its front five comes together. Sewell also took a measured view of the competition around him, saying it is still too early to judge the battle involving Mahogany, Frazier and Bartch, while also noting he has not seen Bartch yet.

Sewells role in camp buzz goes beyond the line itself, too. He talked about stepping into more of a leadership presence, offered his impressions of offensive coordinator Drew Petzing as smart and fast-thinking, and even covered lighter ground such as his favorite pre-game meals. Add in his appearance at a fan event at Panda Express in Livonia, and it is clear Sewell is carrying plenty of visibility into camp, with the left tackle move still the biggest piece of the puzzle. Kerby Joseph Just Sent Lions Fans Another Camp Readiness Clue

Kerby Joseph has become one of the more closely watched names as Lions training camp approaches, and the latest social-media chatter only added to the attention. The Detroit safety has been dealing with a knee injury and the team has handled his return carefully, which is why every hint about his readiness matters with camp set to open soon.

Josephs recent comments suggested he may not be headed for the Physically Unable to Perform list, even if Detroit has not spelled out his exact status. With veterans reporting July 28 and practice beginning July 29, the timing leaves little room for mystery, and the Lions will soon have to show whether their top safety is truly ready to go or still needs more time.
