The Detroit Lions are lining up another addition at linebacker as they try to patch together the position after the injuries to Jack Campbell and Jimmy Rolder.
Along with the reported signing of KJ Britt from the Patriots’ practice squad, the Lions are also expected to add Owen Pappoe to their practice squad, according to CBS Sports. Pappoe’s visit to Detroit on Tuesday showed up on the transaction wire, and the move is pending a physical.
Pappoe entered the league as a third-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2023. Over the next three years, he suited up in almost every game Arizona played, appearing in 49 total. Most of his work came on special teams, where he logged 945 snaps, while adding 341 snaps on defense.
Arizona waived Pappoe during roster cuts this year, and the Tennessee Titans claimed him the next day. He played in one game for Tennessee before being released a month ago.
For Detroit, the appeal is pretty clear: more special teams help and a linebacker with an interesting athletic profile.
The bigger question is how the room looks once the dust settles. With Rolder out for the year and Campbell out indefinitely, Lions coach Dan Campbell pointed Monday to a group that appears set to carry the load.
“Luckily we have some depth in there with Rodrigo and Nowaske and Barnes,” Campbell said. “Those three guys and Amen (Ogbongbemiga)’s been up for us, which is good. And then we have got (LB Joe) Bachie ready to roll.”
Detroit has not officially announced any of the new linebacker moves yet, and the roster math still has to be sorted out. On Tuesday, the Lions placed Rolder on injured reserve and waived safety Bishop Fitzgerald, opening two spots on the 53-man roster. Britt should fill one of them, but the team still needs room on the practice squad for Pappoe.
That likely means another practice squad move is coming, with a promotion needed to clear space. Seven-year veteran Joe Bachie looks like the most natural candidate, though the Lions are expected to make everything official later Wednesday.

Lions May Finally Be Forced To Test Ahmed Hassanein
Ahmed Hassanein has spent this season on the Lions 53-man roster without getting into a game, which is a little surprising for a young pass rusher who flashed enough in the preseason to make people take notice. He brought pressure, finished plays and looked like the kind of developmental edge defender Detroit would want to keep close, even if the regular-season path to snaps has been crowded.
Now the door may be opening a bit. With D.J. Wonnum working through concussion protocol, the Lions could be looking for another body on the edge, and Aidan Hutchinson has already pointed to Hassanein as someone who may be ready for a chance. For a player who has been waiting on the sideline after earning his roster spot, this could be the week Detroit finally finds out what it has. [Read more 🡒]
Lions Suddenly Have A Linebacker Problem They Can't Ignore
The Lions have been forced to keep an eye on their linebacker room as injuries continue to thin out the group, and the front office has already started looking for help. Owen Pappoe, who has spent time with the Cardinals and Titans, visited the Allen Park Performance Center and is expected to join Detroits practice squad as the team tries to stabilize a position that suddenly needs more bodies.
Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes have been working through the roster with that urgency in mind, knowing the depth chart can change quickly this time of year. With Jimmy Rolder unavailable and Jack Campbell also dealing with an injury, Detroit is left searching for answers while trying to preserve enough flexibility to get through the next stretch. Lions May Have A Clear Week 9 Edge Against Miami
Miamis loss to New England put a spotlight on an offense that has not always protected its quarterback well, and the film points to a few pressure points Detroit will be watching closely. Malik Willis has been holding the ball longer than Miami can afford, and the Dolphins front has given up enough disruption to make pass protection a real talking point heading into Week 9.
For the Lions, that kind of matchup can shape the whole plan. Miami still has defensive pieces that can create problems, including Josh Uche and Jacob Rodriguez, but the bigger question is whether Detroit can turn the Dolphins protection issues into consistent heat and force the game into the kind of rhythm the Lions want. How much of that edge carries over to Sunday is the part worth monitoring. [Read more 🡒]
