The Detroit Lions seem unfazed by the potential legal issues surrounding cornerback Terrion Arnold, despite his name surfacing in connection with a robbery incident that led to six arrests.
At this week's owners meetings in Arizona, head coach Dan Campbell shared that their discussions with Arnold and the information they've gathered suggest the third-year cornerback isn't facing any legal jeopardy.
“We’ve got all the information that says he wasn’t involved,” Campbell stated. “That’s what we know, and that’s all I can say. We’re keeping an eye on things, but as far as I’m aware, it’s not a big deal, and it seems like he wasn’t involved.”
Back in February, an alleged kidnapping and robbery occurred in a Florida apartment, reportedly as retaliation for a robbery at Arnold’s Airbnb. Recently, text messages from the incident were made public, mentioning Arnold’s name multiple times. However, Arnold’s attorney, Tim Jansen, argues these texts don’t implicate Arnold in the crime.
“Claims that Mr. Arnold was ‘at the center’ of these texts are misleading,” Jansen stated.
“The messages include more than 300 texts, and Arnold’s name appears only about five times, in passing references. There’s no indication he was directly involved.”
Team president Rod Wood mentioned they met with Arnold after the allegations surfaced and questioned him thoroughly about the situation.
On the Lions Collective podcast, general manager Brad Holmes expressed his cautious approach to such incidents.
“I’m more of a pessimistic planner. I prepare for the worst but hope for the best,” Holmes noted.
This offseason, the Lions bolstered their cornerback lineup by re-signing Rock Ya-Sin and adding versatile defenders Roger McCreary and Christian Izien. Campbell feels confident about their depth in the cornerback room.
“Getting Rock back was crucial. It wasn’t about covering for Terrion’s situation, but if needed, we have depth,” Campbell explained.
“We’ve still got D.J. Reed, we like Ennis Rakestraw, who’s had a strong offseason.
With Rock and McCreary, we’re in a good spot.”
