Lions Fans Are Already Buzzing About Ford Fields New Food Stand

Spaghetti fans are in for a treat as Mom's Spaghetti aims to capture the hearts-and taste buds-of Lions and Vikings fans at Ford Field this season.

Ford Field’s newest food draw is getting a second test run, and Mom’s Spaghetti is already proving it can handle the crowd.

Minnesota Vikings fans coming to Detroit for Sunday’s 1 p.m. matchup with the Lions will be the second visiting fan base to get a crack at the Eminem-inspired stand, which made its debut Oct. 25 when Detroit hosted Green Bay. The first week brought a steady stream of customers, plenty of sauce, and a response restaurateur Curt Catallo clearly enjoyed seeing.

“We were excited to see how many people were amped for Mom’s Spaghetti,” Catallo told the Free Press ahead of its second Sunday as a mainstay food stand at Ford Field. “We had a line all day, which was so fun.

And the crew just killed it. We hope that it kicked off a new tradition for people down at Ford Field.”

That opening day buzz came with spaghetti and meatballs, plus the S’ghetti sandwich, the menu item that has done the most talking. Fans lined up for both, and one Lions fan called the spaghetti and meatballs "phenomenal."

The stand is the latest extension of a restaurant concept from Eminem, Paul Rosenberg and Catallo. The menu takes its cue from lyrics in “Lose Yourself,” and the Ford Field version also comes with Mom’s Spaghetti merchandise featuring both the restaurant and Lions logos, including T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies.

Catallo said the back-of-house crew was ready for the rush.

“They’re used to high volume. They’re used to slinging pasta.

And then the front of the house are the Levy folks who all work for volunteer organizations and they just did a killer job.” Levy is the Ford Field food and beverage partner.

At some Ford Field concessions, volunteers work the stands and a portion of sales goes back to the organization they represent.

The S’ghetti sandwich has already become the conversation piece. It drew attention on social media and even landed on ESPN SportsCenter. The sandwich is built with sauce-laden spaghetti and a slice of mozzarella tucked between two slices of buttered Texas toast.

On SportsCenter, Michael Eaves brought up Eminem and the restaurant before asking co-host Nicole Briscoe if she remembered “Lose Yourself” and the line about “Mom’s Spaghetti.” He then described the Lions’ S’Ghetti Sandwich.

"It's such a throwback to when I was kid," Eaves says.

Briscoe wasn’t sold.

"It's like your mom throwing hot dogs on your SpaghettiOs and calling it Bolognese."

"No, no. It's not like that," Eaves says. "It's called the Lions S'ghetti sandwich."

"That's spaghetti on Wonder Bread," Brisco says.

"You've never had this?"

"Never. And I won't ever," Brisco says.

"What was your childhood like?" Eaves asks.

"Not like that," Brisco says.

The Ford Field stand is only the latest step for a concept that began as a pop-up and later grew into a walk-up window in 2021 beside Catallo’s Union Assembly restaurant downtown. Catallo owns Union Assembly and other metro Detroit restaurants through his Union Joints hospitality group.

For fans heading to the game, Mom’s Spaghetti is located in Section 127 near the 50-yard line on the visitors’ side. The menu includes traditional spaghetti, spaghetti with meatballs and the S’ghetti sandwich. The spaghetti dishes come in a takeout container with a fork, while the sandwich stacks Mom’s Spaghetti with a slice of mozzarella between griddled Texas toast brushed with garlic butter.

On Oct. 25, prices at Ford Field were $12.99 for spaghetti and $17.99 for both spaghetti with meatballs and the S’ghetti sandwich. Fans can also buy peanuts, candy, beer, pop and water.

Catallo said the concept is headed overseas next, with Mom’s Spaghetti set to go to Germany for the International Lions vs. New England Patriots game Nov. 15 in Munich. A food truck will serve fans for two days before that game, and Catallo said the trip will include eight to ten team members.

The downtown restaurant sits at 2131 Woodward Ave., a few minutes’ walk from Ford Field. According to its website, it is open 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Sunday.

Lions Win Took A Back Seat To One Frightening Jack Campbell Scene

Detroits 19-15 win over Minnesota came with the kind of unease that can linger long after the final whistle. The Lions had already been dealing with injuries on defense during the game, but the biggest concern arrived in the fourth quarter when linebacker Jack Campbell went down and the mood inside the stadium shifted immediately.

Campbell was hurt on a tackle attempt and remained on the turf for an extended stretch before being helped off the field on a stretcher. He was later taken to a hospital for evaluation, turning a hard-fought divisional victory into a night the Lions will remember for far more than the result. [Read more 🡒]

Lions Face Early Trouble In A Game That Could Shake Up NFC North

Week 8 in the NFC North came with a little extra weight for Detroit, and the first quarter against Minnesota already had the feel of a game that could matter long after Sunday. The Vikings got the opening kickoff and immediately had a chance to set the tone, while the Lions answered with some early movement of their own, including a third-down conversion from Amon-Ra St. Brown before the offense ran into a choppy stretch.

The opening frame never settled in for either side, with penalties and missed field goals helping turn what should have been a clean division showdown into a stop-start grind. Detroit needed a steady hand to keep pace in a game with first-place implications, but the early rhythm kept getting interrupted, leaving plenty of tension on the field and even more riding on how the rest of the afternoon would unfold. Jared Goffs Pregame Ford Field Moment Had Lions Fans Feeling It

Before the Lions kicked off against the Vikings on Nov. 1 at Ford Field, Jared Goff got a sideline moment that had little to do with coverage checks and everything to do with family. The quarterback was seen on the field with his wife, Christen Harper Goff, and their daughter, Romy, in a pregame scene that the NFL later captured in a video on Instagram.

The clip showed Goff holding his daughter and spending time with his wife near the sideline, a small but striking reminder of how much these moments resonate beyond the scoreboard. It was the kind of personal snapshot that tends to travel fast with fans, especially when it comes just before a divisional game at home. [Read more 🡒]
